1st Cooking Competition at the Traditions Market in La Oliva.

The Market of Traditions, a symbolic place full of history located in the famous “Casa del Coronel” restored in 2013, is situated in La Oliva’s municipality.

This is a craft market, where artisans and agricultural entrepreneurs offer and sell products related to typical Majorero crafts, such as ” los calados” and pieces of art; as well as the gastronomic offerings of Fuerteventura, such as its cheese, Indian tuna jams, fruits, and vegetables, in short, a wide range of local foods that are open to the general public both to residents of the island, as well as to many tourists who wish to discover its gastronomy. This is a must-visit place if you want to get to know Fuerteventura in depth.

On the 22nd of November, the Town Hall of La Oliva held the 1st Cooking Competition, which aims to reward the best chefs of Fuerteventura who are committed to local products and at the same time to name and promote the delicacies of the island.

The competition is based on a selection of hot and cold dishes of local and autochthonous products, with seven different great chefs from the municipality of La Oliva. The event is committed to the exclusive promotion of the products and gastronomy of the island, to involve more and more the culinary richness and traditions of Fuerteventura.

“Gastronomy as a segment of tourism promotion is fundamental in our municipality.”

Celino Umpiérrez Concejal de Turismo y Gastronomía. Ayuntamiento de la Oliva

The level of the participants was extremely high, showing passion for cooking and love for the product. Among the judges were Inti Ramses, from the restaurant El Caserón del Cortijo, and Braulio Rodríguez, from the restaurant Majuga. It was an honor to be able to count on these beautiful chefs from the Canary Islands.

The competition was very close, where the judges saw a high level in their kitchens, inserting the local product and Km0 in all its aspects in their elaborations. The competition winners were the charming Sharon from The Return restaurant, the 2nd place to the renowned Basque chef Israel Franco Zubiaga from the restaurant “Platanera”, and finally the fabulous chef Carlos Blanco, chef of Grill Don Pepe.

An excellent initiative is full of Majorero gastronomy and professional cuisine from the municipality of La Oliva.
