An actual art exhibition with a special commemoration of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. It was inaugurated on 25 November in the Casa de la Cultura in Puerto del Rosario.
It will be on display throughout December with a charitable purpose. The funds raised from the sales of the works of art, 30%, will go to the Asociación Renacer Violeta (association against gender violence and help for women).

On 25 November 1960, the Mirabal sisters, also known as “Mariposas”, were three Dominican sisters who opposed the dictatorship and were brutally murdered for being activists and women.
In 1993, the United Nations General Assembly named and adopted an agreement on the Elimination of Violence against Women, which defines violence against women as “any act of gender-based violence that results in, or is likely to result in, physical, sexual or psychological harm or suffering to women, including threats of such acts, coercion or arbitrary deprivation of liberty, whether occurring in public or in private life.” Naturally, in 1999 the General Assembly proclaimed 25 November as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.
Renacer Violeta, born at the end of 2012, soon managed to provide answers to the needs and support of women victims of gender violence, including their children.

Seven artists of different nationalities but residing on the island, Giacomo Liazza, Andrea Ripamonti, Antonio Fernández, Estefanía Gango, Katia, Gabriela and Geanina Constanta, as well as the mayor of Puerto del Rosario, Juan Jiménez, and the councillor for Culture, Juan Manuel Verdugo were present at the opening of the event.
