The ‘Be Free Fuerteventura’ festival is born as a space for LGBTQI+ culture & diversity

Puerto del Rosario will host a dozen music, performing arts and education activities

The ‘Be Free Fuerteventura’ festival will turn the Avenida de la Plaza de los Pozos in Puerto del Rosario and the Training and Conference Center into a benchmark space for coexistence with the LTGBIQ+ community. This initiative will be held from November 17 to 20, as a place for diversity and culture, with a dozen performing arts activities, live music and educational activities.

The Cabildo de Fuerteventura, through the Ministry of Culture, and the Puerto del Rosario City Council join this project of ALTIHAY Fuerteventura, the LGTBI+ Collective of the Canary Islands, which has been working for years on its creation as an event to celebrate diversity in the capital majorera. This proposal has a clear tourist focus, for which the support of the Tourist Board and the Department of Tourism of Puerto del Rosario is added.

The president of the Cabildo de Fuerteventura, Sergio Loret López, thanked the commitment of ALTIHAY Fuerteventura, Clapso Producciones and the institutions involved in the development of a festival designed to continue advancing in normalizing diversity, hoping that it will also become another pillar for the tourist promotion of Fuerteventura.

For the mayor of Puerto del Rosario Juan Jiménez, “the LGTBIQ+ cause in Fuerteventura has been growing in unison with the Majorera society. In the municipality of Puerto del Rosario we have endeavored to diversify society from a multicultural perspective and open to all kinds of experiences such as Be Free Fuerteventura”.

In the festival presentation, the representative of ALTIHAY, Pedro Esquivel, felt excited “to finally launch a festival promoted by the collective to celebrate diversity with a content that will not leave anyone indifferent and in which there will be no lack of social aspect”.

On behalf of Clapso Producciones, Israel Reyes thanked the institutions for their support, “but especially the people who ultimately believe in the projects. In this case, a festival to celebrate on an urban beach as beautiful as the one in Puerto del Rosario”.

In addition, the Minister of Culture, Rayco León, explained that “the festival was born from the groups and the community of Fuerteventura, with a clear transforming dimension. We hope that it has a vocation for the future and that we are laying the first stone of a project of the level that Fuerteventura deserves”.
