With an extraordinary initiative by the Air Institute and Tourism Data-Driven Solutions (TDDS) in collaboration with the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), Spain´s eternal land of sunshine- the Canary Island of Fuerteventura becomes the first tourist destination gearing up to welcome tourists in the pioneering first flight with an innovative HI- Health Passport.
Yaiza Castilla, the Canary Islands Minister of Tourism, who has invested painstaking efforts in getting this project approved expressed her immense gratitude for receiving the confirmation from the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Secretary-General Zurab Pololikashvili.
“With the use of blockchain technology embedded in the HI- Health Passport App, passengers will be able to travel safely by syncing their medical records through a unique profile badge that eventually is stored with the Ministry of Health, giving them an official “Safe to Travel” certificate that makes their holidays hassle free,” said Antonio López de Ávila, co-founder of hi+Card and CEO of tourism Data-Driven Solutions (TDDS).
With Fuerteventura´s enigmatic and vast volcanic landscapes, 365 days of sunshine, and the collective consciousness of sustainability and environment protection, the island has long been the leading destination for seeding social innovation projects.
(UNWTO) Secretary-General Zurab Pololikashvili further added that their departments have combined efforts from a panel of experts, data scientists, blockchain technologists, innovators, and tourism industry veterans to ensure this project in the Canary Islands, starting in Fuerteventura, serves exemplary as a global reference of restarting tourism.
How does the HI-Health Card help in restarting tourism?
With the HI – Health App the aim of UNWTO is to reduce risks through traceability systems and smart technology so that taking your next surfing vacation or a much needed holiday is an experience of peace than pain.
Being located in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, with direct flight connections from major airports in Europe & now from Canada & the United States and having a comparatively warmer climate than the nearby Canary Islands, Fuerteventura´s comparative advantage and this innovative beginning will be the founding stones to Spain´s recovery after the coronavirus pandemic.
