In a recent interview, he highlighted that Caleta de Fuste, the main tourist hub in Antigua, is gradually becoming a destination for low-level tourism. Van der Veen emphasized the need for attention towards issues such as cleanliness and the absence of a coherent strategy for the area’s future. He also discussed the growth of AECA, which has increased its membership from 35 to nearly 130 entrepreneurs, asserting its influence on the future of Caleta de Fuste.
