20 Jobs at Risk as Community Center Closes

Twenty jobs are at risk following the closure of the emergency center for unaccompanied migrant minors, ANCOR, located in Fuerteventura. The center has operated on a provisional basis for seven years. There is currently no agreement between Mundo Nuevo, the organization managing the facility, and the Canarias Government’s Department of Social Welfare regarding new economic conditions.

All 16 minors previously housed at the center have been relocated to another facility on the island. However, staff members have expressed concerns about whether the new arrangement aligns with the announced model of smaller centers and worry about the well-being of the youths moved to the new site, managed by the NGO Quorum Social 77.

The ongoing situation highlights broader challenges associated with the care of vulnerable minors in Fuerteventura.
