This weekend, the enchanting island of Fuerteventura is set to host an electrifying event—the 12th Subida a Betancuria, marking the kickoff of the second half of the season in the Campeonato Provincial de Las Palmas de Montaña. Organized collaboratively by the island’s motor clubs, including Tibiabín, Betan, Fuertemotor, and Adael, this event is expected to attract a diverse array of talent, with a staggering 73 participants competing across various categories: Velocidad, Fórmula-Rallye, and Regularidad.

Participants and Competitors

Leading the charge in the official entry list is the current champion of the Canarias Category 2, Lauren García. He will be taking on the competition in his Nova Proto NP01 against contenders like Carlos Alexis Ramos, who drives a BRC 05 Evo. This duel is sure to be thrilling, showcasing not just speed but also the skill of the drivers as they tackle the challenging course.

In the fight for glory in Category 3, spectators can anticipate an intense showdown between drivers such as Guillermo Évora (BRC 02), Javier Rodríguez (Speed Car GTR), and José Luis Duque (Speed Car GT1000). Notably, Duque, better known for his prowess with touring cars, will be making his debut in the single-seater category, which adds an element of unpredictability to the overall competition.

The Thrill of Category 1

The most populous division is undoubtedly Category 1, where fans will revel in witnessing elite competitors from the Campeonato de Canarias de Montaña. Stars like Ángel Bello, piloting an Audi R8 LMS Ultra Evo, and José Manuel González in a Porsche 991.1 GT3 will be competing against one another, providing an exciting spectacle. Gustavo Bolaños, currently sitting third in the FALP standings, aims to keep pace with these titans, promising exhilarating racing.

Adding to the mix, Alejandro Suárez, steering his Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX, makes the journey from Gran Canaria to vie for crucial points that could elevate his standing in the eastern championship. Representing the local crew, majorera’s own participants—José Javier Fránquiz (Mitsubishi Space Star Proto), Sergio López (Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VI), and Javier Sosa (Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX)—are poised to deliver strong performances, eager to thrill their home crowd.

Regularity Challenges

The Provincial de Las Palmas de Montaña Regularity—Trofeo Car Home Services is another highlight of the Betancurian ascent. In the Regularity Sport category, the duo of Javier Marrero and María Isabel García will be defending their leading position driving a Volkswagen Golf GTI against their closest rivals. This aspect of the competition promises to bring an engaging dynamic, as competitors strive for precision and consistency to secure their standings in this fiercely contested segment.

Event Schedule

The much-anticipated schedule for Saturday, July 19, is packed with action. Preliminary checks, both administrative and technical, will occur between 9:00 and 11:45 AM at the Virgin of the Peña church plaza. At noon, the FV-30 highway will close to traffic in preparation for the event, with the first round of training kicks off at 1:00 PM, followed closely by two competitive heats.
