Gesprotur Promotes the Installation of Smart Tourist Totems in Puerto del Rosario

Adjudicación del Proyecto y Objetivos

The Regional Ministry of Tourism and Employment of the Canary Islands Government has announced an exciting development for the municipality of Puerto del Rosario in Fuerteventura. Through the Project Management and Tourist Studies of the Canary Islands (Gesprotur), the government has awarded a project focused on the installation of twenty-two tourist totems across the city. This initiative aims to enhance the local tourism offering by strategically placing informative supports that help visitors navigate the area and learn about its rich history and culture.

With a significant investment of 39,600 euros and a timeline of three months for execution, the project intends to visually connect the surrounding landscape with the immense cultural and historical wealth of the region. Each totem will serve as a point of interest, guiding tourists through key locations while providing insightful information about the island’s heritage.

Equipped with QR technology, the totems will allow visitors and residents to access information at their fingertips, creating a more interactive and engaging experience. As Jéssica de León, the Regional Minister for Tourism and Employment, eloquently stated, these totems represent “digital windows” that narrate the captivating story of Fuerteventura. This innovative approach aims to enrich the traveler’s experience by facilitating a deeper connection between the visitors and the local context.

Colaboración Institucional y Distribución

The successful realization of the totem project relies heavily on institutional collaboration. Ignacio Solana, the CEO of Gesprotur, highlighted how the project is the result of synergistic efforts among various administrative bodies. This teamwork exemplifies the commitment of the Regional Ministry to not only enhance the tourism sector but also to celebrate the natural beauty inherent to the islands.

The distribution of the totems throughout Puerto del Rosario has been meticulously planned to maximize their effectiveness. By placing them near cultural sites, parks, and tourist hotspots, the initiative aims to ensure that both locals and tourists benefit from enriched knowledge about their surroundings. Beyond merely beautifying the area, these totems stand to serve as educational tools, fostering pride in the region’s history and culture.

This endeavor reflects a broader strategy to leverage technology in promoting sustainable tourism. As travelers increasingly seek meaningful experiences, the totems are designed to meet this demand by providing in-depth insights into the island’s unique attributes. Moreover, the strategic placement and modern technology are expected to facilitate a seamless connection between nature and culture, enhancing the overall visitor experience in Fuerteventura.
