Two Explosive Mortar Shells Found in Fuerteventura Home

As Fuerteventura continues to attract investors, recent developments in safety precautions highlight the island’s commitment to public security.

On April 30, 2026, the Civil Guard discovered two military-grade mortar shells during a routine investigation in a residential home situated in the Atalaya Dorada urbanization of Corralejo, Fuerteventura. These objects, identified as potentially dangerous, prompted immediate action from the authorities.

Upon verification through photographs, explosives disposal specialists (GEDEX) confirmed the presence of explosive charges within the 50-millimeter projectiles. To ensure public safety, the area was cordoned off until the specialists arrived on the scene. The projectiles were subsequently removed and safely destroyed in controlled conditions.

The Civil Guard has emphasized the importance of safety regarding found military materials. They advise the public never to handle any suspicious objects but to vacate the area and notify the appropriate authorities or emergency services. It’s crucial to remember that all military equipment is exclusively reserved for Armed Forces use, and any unauthorized possession or use is strictly prohibited.
