Radio Sintonía recently took a journey to the Punto Limpio in Puerto del Rosario, located in Risco Prieto, to shed light on the important role these facilities play in waste management in Fuerteventura. Such points are crucial for promoting proper waste disposal practices among the local population.

With newly set hours, these clean points now operate every day of the week, making it easier for residents to manage their waste responsibly. This initiative aims to minimize improper dumping in municipal solid waste containers, further stressing the importance of collective efforts in environmental conservation.

The Cabildo de Fuerteventura’s Department of Waste Management urges citizens to adopt responsible consumption and waste management as part of a broader commitment to environmental protection. This approach not only conserves resources but also helps reduce the demand for new products by promoting recycling and reusing existing materials.

Punto Limpio facilities are strategically located in areas such as Lajares (La Oliva), Risco Prieto (Puerto del Rosario), Tuineje, and Mal Nombre (Pájara). Residents benefit from free assistance from trained personnel, who are on hand to provide guidance on how to dispose of various types of waste correctly.

In a recent discussion, several key figures joined the Radio Sintonía team, including Enrique Pérez, the Councilor for Waste Management; Carlos Afán, head of service at PreZero in Fuerteventura; Abel Suárez, in charge of clean points; and David De León, councilor for Services in Puerto del Rosario. Their insights highlighted not only the operational procedures of these clean points but also the extensive processes involved in waste management, particularly for materials that must be shipped off the island, often incurring additional costs.

At the Punto Limpio in Puerto del Rosario, a diverse array of waste is collected, including debris, wood, mattresses, oil, tires, batteries, electronics, and appliances. Currently, this facility receives approximately 50 visits daily, indicating strong community engagement. Looking to the future, the Cabildo is considering plans for new facilities and increased flexibility for small businesses, reflecting a proactive approach to sustainable waste management in Fuerteventura.

Through these efforts, the initiative not only aims to simplify the process of waste disposal for residents but also aspires to foster a community-wide commitment to sustainability, ultimately striving for a cleaner and more verdant Fuerteventura.
