However, twelve months on, the library remains closed, and indications suggest that it may take another six months before the renovation is completed. This has sparked frustration not only within the local community but among students who rely heavily on library resources for their studies.
Inadequate Operating Hours
One of the most pressing problems denounced by Fuerteventura Avanza is the inadequate operating schedule of the library. The facility is only open during morning hours, which blatantly disregards the needs of local students, most of whom attend school until 2 PM. This lack of accessibility has made it nearly impossible for students to utilize the library for their studies, which is particularly concerning during this critical period of the academic year.

The spokesperson for Fuerteventura Avanza, Peña Armas, voiced her concerns, stating, “We’re facing an incomprehensible situation. A capital city without an accessible library for afternoon study.” She highlights the necessity of having a reliable space for young people to prepare for their futures. This scenario is especially dire with the imminent dates for the Prueba de Acceso a la Universidad (PAU) exams, which are set for June 2-5. It is during this crucial time that students require a peaceful and resource-equipped atmosphere to focus on their studies.
