Technology Park Unveils Emergency Projects to Ministry of the Interior

As Fuerteventura continues to attract investors, innovative ventures are shaping its future.

The Fuerteventura Technology Park, managed by the Cabildo de Fuerteventura, recently welcomed representatives from the Ministry of the Interior. Their visit aimed to showcase groundbreaking projects developed in the park related to security, emergency response, civil protection, and biodiversity enhancement.

Accompanying the island’s president, Lola García, and Manuel Miranda, the advisor of Territorial Policy and Water, were notable figures including Virginia Barcones, the General Director of Civil Protection and Emergencies, and Anselmo Pestana, the Government Delegate in the Canary Islands. They explored the park’s technology, particularly focusing on unmanned aerial platforms designed for public service missions.

President Lola García emphasized the importance of showcasing the park’s capabilities, which host pioneering projects in security, emergency response, and biodiversity management. She stressed the park’s role as a vital hub for national security and emergency efforts.

Manuel Miranda highlighted the Technology Park’s potential to address pressing challenges, including those stemming from climate change. He noted ongoing initiatives that foster research, development, and innovation, bolstering the island’s capacity to manage emergencies.

Virginia Barcones echoed this sentiment, underscoring the need to strengthen the national civil protection system in light of recent emergency situations. She praised the park’s innovations that position the Canary Islands as leaders in using technology to anticipate and coordinate responses to catastrophic events.

During their visit, the officials toured the ISSEC building, which focuses on creating innovative solutions through data analytics harnessed from sensors on unmanned platforms. They also visited the Canarias Stratoport, Spain’s largest runway for pseudo-satellites and unmanned aircraft operations.

Both projects are integral to the Canarias Geo Innovation 2030 program, a collaborative initiative between the Cabildo de Fuerteventura and the Government of the Canary Islands aimed at enhancing public services through advanced Earth observation and communication technologies. This program is significantly supported by the European Union’s Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan.
