Puerto del Rosario Strengthens Its Commitment to Carnival with a €1.8 Million Investment to Create the Future Carnival City

Strategic Investments in Puerto del Rosario: Enhancing Culture and Infrastructure

The municipality of Puerto del Rosario is embarking on a significant journey of development with the recent approval of a new budget modification that allocates nearly nine million euros towards various transformative projects. Among the most notable initiatives is the establishment of the Ciudad del Carnaval, a dedicated space aimed at celebrating one of Fuerteventura’s most cherished cultural traditions.

A Focus on the Ciudad del Carnaval

This cornerstone project, set to receive an allocation of 1,839,000 euros, will be nestled within the scenic Parque La Gavia de Los Hormiga. The goal? To create specialized facilities for the development, conservation, and promotion of the Carnaval. The proposal will be presented for debate in an upcoming plenary session, and if approved, it is expected to breathe new life into the Carnaval scene in Puerto del Rosario.

Mayor David de Vera shared insights into the project, emphasizing its role in solidifying the Carnaval’s position as a dynamic force in the cultural, social, and tourist landscape of the region. With the necessary land and technical documentation already in place, the project had been awaiting funding—a hurdle now overcome with the budget amendment. This development not only enriches the municipality but also elevates the Carnaval, ensuring it remains an all-year-round celebration.

Enhancing Public Spaces: The Parque Rosa Vila

In addition to the Ciudad del Carnaval, the newly approved budget also includes vital improvements to public spaces throughout Puerto del Rosario. A significant investment of 1,447,000 euros has been earmarked for the Parque Rosa Vila, aimed at revitalizing and enhancing the municipality’s communal areas. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to improve urban living conditions and enhance the quality of life for residents.

Infrastructure Upgrades: Roads and Facilities

The budget modification also prioritizes infrastructure enhancements. Allocations include 1.6 million euros for municipal road asphalting and 660,000 euros for renewing the roof of the Oasis sports pavilion. Additionally, 450,000 euros will go towards fortifying various sports facilities throughout the area, ensuring they are safe and accessible for community use.

In Llanos de La Mareta, 350,000 euros are designated for ongoing asphalt projects, with plans already in place, pending slight administrative clearances regarding land availability. These focused investments showcase the municipality’s commitment to improving everyday facilities for its citizens.

Investing in Youth and Education

Youth initiatives and educational improvements are also central to Puerto del Rosario’s new budget plan. 300,000 euros will support the local Centro de Dinamización Juvenil de Ampuyenta, fostering a nurturing environment for the younger population. Additionally, 200,000 euros are allocated for educational infrastructure enhancements, including the demolition of the dilapidated Casa del Maestro at the CEIP Puerto del Rosario. This strategic move will allow for future expansions of the educational center, thereby enriching academic opportunities for the community.

Moreover, part of the budget is devoted to modifying the Centro Cultural de Buenavista to better serve the Fuerteventura Association of Families with Alzheimer’s (AFFA). This initiative will enhance the support services offered to families, creating new office and care spaces for those affected by the condition.

Cultural Heritage and Historical Preservation

The municipality’s commitment to heritage is exemplified by plans to musealize the former town hall of Casillas del Ángel, coinciding with the centenary celebration of this area’s incorporation into Puerto del Rosario. This project will serve both as a nod to the past and as a means to engage the present community in its rich history.

Administrative Steps Ahead

Upon initial approval, the budget amendment must undergo a public exposure period before obtaining final approval. Following this administrative process, the local government can initiate tendering procedures for the various planned projects, paving the way for tangible developments within Puerto del Rosario.

Through these investments, Puerto del Rosario is not only advancing its infrastructure but also reinforcing its cultural identity, ensuring that the Carnaval remains a vibrant and integral aspect of life in the capital of Fuerteventura. These initiatives reflect the municipality’s proactive approach to urban modernization, community engagement, and cultural celebration, fostering a bright future for all residents.
