Celebrating Excellence: The Gala de Campeones in Fuerteventura
The scenic landscape of Fuerteventura will soon play host to an event that honors the passion, dedication, and skill of its automobile racing community. The ceremony is set to unfold at the Centro Insular de Juventud in Puerto del Rosario, which has once again been chosen as the venue for the prestigious Gala de Campeones organized by the Federación de Automovilismo de Las Palmas (FALP). Scheduled for the evening of July 10, 2025, starting at 8:00 PM, this gathering promises to be a night of celebration and recognition for the island’s top competitors.
A Season to Remember
The 2025 racing season was filled with intense competition, thrilling moments, and nail-biting finishes, making this year’s gala particularly special. It encapsulates a series of championships that kept fans and participants on the edge of their seats until the very last event. More than fifteen outstanding athletes from Fuerteventura will take center stage, receiving accolades for their remarkable performances on the unique dirt roads that the island offers. These roads have become iconic in the Archipelago, establishing Fuerteventura as a benchmark for gravel racing in the region.
Honoring the Best of the Best
Among the stars of the night will be the champions from the Insular de Fuerteventura de Slalom. Notable mentions include Javier Fránquiz and José Ángel Batista, who emerged as the absolute winners in the touring cars category, showcasing their prowess with one first-place finish and a second. Following closely was Gustavo Sosa, who secured similar results but was edged out for a silver medal due to tie-breaking criteria. Additionally, Claudia García shined as the second-place navigator, while Iván García and Mario Guillén rounded out the top three.
Spotlight on Monoplazas Excellence
The excitement doesn’t stop there! The event will also recognize the top performers in the monoplaza division from the new Interinsular Slalom Championship involving Lanzarote and Fuerteventura. Dominating this category was Daniel Pérez, who left a remarkable impression with four victories in as many races. Competing under the banner of Escudería Maxo Sport, Pérez also clinched the island championship title in car-cross, solidifying his status as a formidable racer. His fellow podium finishers, Juan M. Izquierdo and Rubén de León, also deserve accolades for their commendable performances.
Looking Ahead to 2026
As the FALP President Dani Ponce aptly puts it, “Closing 2025 is, in turn, opening 2026.” His words reflect the optimistic outlook for the upcoming season, emphasizing that the Gala de Campeones serves not just as an end but as a steppingstone toward future achievements. Ponce highlighted the significance of the event in showcasing the strength and resilience of Fuerteventura’s motorsport culture. With a triumphant 2025 under their belts, the anticipation is palpable for what lies ahead.
Upcoming Events on the Horizon
The Gala will also set the wheels in motion for the upcoming competitions on the island. Just two weeks post-event, racers will gather for the Subida a Betancuria, marking the official onset of the new racing season. In August, the spotlight will shift to the RallySprint de Pájara, followed by a busy schedule commencing in September with the Rallye de Antigua. The season will culminate with the traditional Prueba de Velocidad en Tierra Motor Solidario on November 28, ensuring that motorsport enthusiasts in Fuerteventura have plenty to look forward to.
A Community United by Passion
The Gala de Campeones is more than just an awards ceremony; it embodies a community’s spirit deeply committed to the thrill of motorsport. The camaraderie among racers, the support from fans, and the dedication of the organizers undeniably contribute to making Fuerteventura a hotbed for automotive excellence. As the island gears up to celebrate its champions, the legacy of the motorsport community only continues to grow, fueling the passion for racing for years to come.
