On a recent Monday afternoon, a tragic traffic accident unfolded in the municipality of Antigua, resulting in five people sustaining injuries. The incident occurred at approximately 4:09 PM, specifically at the 25-kilometer mark along the FV-2 road.
According to the Centro Coordinador de Emergencias y Seguridad (CECOES) 1-1-2 of the Canary Islands Government, the collision involved two vehicles and was serious enough to activate multiple emergency resources. First responders rushed to the scene to assist the injured individuals without delay.
Injury Assessment by the Canary Islands Emergency Services (SUC):
- A 25-year-old woman suffered severe polytrauma and was transported to the Hospital General de Fuerteventura Virgen de La Peña using a medicalized ambulance.
- A 49-year-old man also sustained severe polytrauma and required advanced life support during his transport to the same hospital.
- Another 25-year-old woman incurred moderate multiple bruises and was taken to the hospital via a basic life support ambulance.
- A 15-year-old minor was also reported with moderate bruises and received medical transport in similar circumstances.
- Additionally, a 30-year-old man suffered moderate bruising and was evacuated under basic life support protocols.
Emergency Response Team Deployment:
The emergency services mobilized swiftly, with the CECOES 1-1-2 dispatching the Servicio de Urgencias Canario (SUC). Their response included two basic life support ambulances alongside a medicalized unit. The Fuerteventura Fire Prevention, Extinction of Fires, and Salvage Service (SPEIS) and the Civil Guard were also dispatched to the scene.
Firefighters worked diligently to secure the accident scene, ensuring that the vehicles involved were stabilized. They also successfully rescued two occupants trapped inside one of the cars. Meanwhile, SUC medical personnel administered immediate assistance to all five injured parties before their transport to the hospital.
The Civil Guard’s presence was pivotal in regulating traffic in the area while they compiled an official report to determine the precise causes of this unfortunate incident.
