As Fuerteventura continues to attract investors, local initiatives are adapting to meet evolving demands.
The Fuerteventura Town Council recently participated in the Conference of Presidents, focusing on the regulation of the new Canary Islands Development Fund (FDCAN), which has a budget of €1.626 billion. This critical public investment instrument, operational for over a decade, is being updated to align with the current needs of the Canary Islands.
The revised regulatory framework aims to streamline administrative processes and facilitate the reprogramming of strategic projects. Council representatives emphasized the importance of financing essential sectors such as public housing and social and health resources. These priorities are directly linked to the needs identified on the island, where the FDCAN has played a vital role in developing crucial infrastructure, including roads and water supply systems.
The financing model will continue to allocate 80% of funds specifically for Fuerteventura, a measure that acknowledges its unique geographical challenges. This flexibility in resource management will empower local authorities to respond more swiftly to the social and economic needs of the Majorera community.
