Improving Fuerteventura’s Road Infrastructure: A Comprehensive Overview
On May 7, 2019, significant progress was announced regarding the improvement of road infrastructure in Fuerteventura, an initiative supported by the Canary Development Fund (Fdcan). The Cabildo de Fuerteventura has laid out plans to enhance 27 kilometers of roads across several municipalities, namely Betancuria, La Oliva, and Puerto del Rosario. These improvements aim to elevate the condition of the road surfaces, ensuring greater safety and accessibility for all road users.
The Scope of the Project
The infrastructure upgrades are being completed in six distinct lots and will unfold in several phases. A crucial component of this initiative includes the cleaning of margins, resurfacing with asphalt, and the replacement of road signage. These efforts are designed to not only beautify the roadways but also enhance their overall functionality.
Key Locations and Ongoing Works
The focus of the project includes several key roads, such as the FV-220, which provides access to the village of La Asomada. Marcial Morales, President of the Cabildo de Fuerteventura, along with Edilia Pérez, the insular counselor for Roads, recently visited this road to assess the ongoing improvements. Morales emphasized the importance of these projects as part of a broader plan aimed at preserving and enhancing Fuerteventura’s road network.
Currently, the improvements on the FV-220 have been completed, executed by the company Crispal Islas S.L. with an investment of €96,875. This initial success serves as a benchmark for subsequent phases of the project.
Major Investments in Roadworks
Two major segments of the FV-30 have recently commenced, linking the municipalities of Puerto del Rosario and Betancuria. This segment’s renovations include improvements on the stretch from Casillas del Ángel intersection to the Tefía roundabout, and the section between the Llanos de la Concepción and the Valley of Santa Inés. The cost for these enhancements is substantial, amounting to €421,399, carried out by Obras Públicas Canarias S.L.
Further efforts include upgrades on the FV-207 road that connects the FV-10 with the FV-30. This section, totaling seven kilometers up to the village of Tefía, is also managed by Crispal Islas S.L. with a funding allocation of €533,891.
Upcoming Works
Future works are on the horizon for the FV-214, located at the entrance of Guisguey, where improvements will be spearheaded by Tecnología de la Construcción y Obras Públicas. This segment boasts a budget of €589,245 and is scheduled for completion within four months.
Additionally, improvements on the FV-10 are set to begin soon, covering two sections. The assigned contractor, Obras Públicas Canarias S.L., will undertake resurfacing work between the access to Tindaya and the intersection leading to El Cotillo, as well as from the La Oliva Cemetery to Corralejo. The total cost for these efforts is estimated at €495,151, with an expected completion timeframe of two months.
Enhancements in La Oliva and Villaverde
Also noteworthy are the upcoming improvements on the FV-101 road, which will span the towns of La Oliva and Villaverde, extending into the stretch from the Casilla de Costa urbanization. Crispal Islas S.L. will oversee these enhancements with a budget of €255,929 and a two-month execution window.

Pérez specifically highlighted that keeping the island’s roads well-maintained is crucial for providing greater accessibility, comfort, and safety to residents and visitors alike. These upgrades reflect a forward-thinking approach to infrastructure development, ensuring that Fuerteventura’s roadways remain adequate as the island continues to grow.
