Asamblea Majorera – Coalición Canaria Fuerteventura Kicks Off 2026 with Engaging Political Council Session
On Wednesday, Asamblea Majorera – Coalición Canaria Fuerteventura (AM-CC) marked an important milestone by holding its first session of the Insular Political Council (CPI) for 2026. The gathering not only showcased the commitments of the party but also introduced a new work plan aimed at steering the party’s actions throughout the year. A focal point of this plan is the preparation to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Asamblea Majorera, set for 2027.
A Robust Work Plan for 2026
The work plan presented during the meeting aims to engage both party militants and public officials. It prioritizes training workshops that cover essential ideological tenets of the nationalist formation. These sessions intend to bolster participants’ understanding of key themes such as identity, demographic challenges, communication, innovation, and the latest technological advancements.
Revitalizing Local Initiatives
One of the pivotal discussions during the council involved the reactivation of the project titled ‘Fuerteventura te necesita’ (Fuerteventura Needs You). This initiative seeks to address the various demands of the island’s populace by creating new forums for sectoral discussions. Key areas of focus under this initiative include the primary sector, healthcare, infrastructure, and territorial planning.
A Vision for a Participatory Island
Through a slew of initiatives, AM-CC aims to promote a participatory model that respects the island’s unique identity and environmental integrity. Council members recognized that protecting the island’s territory has been a longstanding objective of the party. They highlighted previous achievements, such as preventing developments in sensitive areas like Saladar de Jandía and the Island of Lobos from being transformed into large hotel complexes.
Addressing Population Growth and Sustainability
The council also discussed the significant demographic changes that Fuerteventura has experienced over the past two decades. The need to regulate population growth became a pressing topic, alongside proposals for a residency law. In addressing the challenges posed by tourism, members contemplated the introduction of an ecotax and a halt on new hotel construction. Such measures are considered crucial for advancing the desired model of the island.
Renewable Energy for the Future
When it comes to energy, AM-CC emphasized that the integration of renewable sources shouldn’t come at the expense of green land. The party advocates for utilizing already developed areas, such as building rooftops, for energy production. Moreover, they proposed harnessing community energy initiatives to further sustainability goals. Facilitating the installation of solar panels for residents was highlighted as a practical way to ensure energy efficiency while reducing utility costs.
Protecting Fuerteventura’s Integrity
Fuerteventura’s unique flat topography makes it particularly susceptible to external pressures. To address this vulnerability, the party underscored the need for comprehensive municipal plans and an overarching insular land-use plan (PIOF). Protecting the island from excessive development, particularly by multinational corporations, remains a priority.
Acknowledging Dedication
The council concluded with an acknowledgment of Candelaria Umpiérrez, the outgoing mayor of Tuineje. Her resignation signified the end of a challenging tenure, yet her commitment and contributions were celebrated by her peers, demonstrating the profound sense of loyalty within AM-CC.
Through these discussions and initiatives, AM-CC illustrates its commitment to creating a sustainable, participatory, and identity-driven future for Fuerteventura. The ideas presented during this first CPI of 2026 not only set the pace for the party’s agenda but also empower the community to engage actively in shaping their island’s destiny.
