MOVEMENTS: Empowering Citizen Movements in Spain
In a world where social change is increasingly driven by grassroots efforts, MOVEMENTS has emerged as a pivotal platform in Spain, enabling the creation, scaling, and sustainability of citizen movements. Recently, the platform achieved a significant milestone by securing €300,000 in its pre-Seed funding round, with plans to extend this round to €350,000 to attract strategic investors before the final close.
Backing from Influential Investors
The initial funding success has been bolstered by a roster of notable business angels, including Miguel Vicente (Antai, Wallapop, Glovo), Vincent Rosso (Consentio, BlaBlaCar), David Tomás (Cyberclick), Marta Huidobro (AEBAN), and Ignacio Carnero (Libelium, Ontruck). These investors are not just financial backers; they bring a wealth of experience and insight from various sectors. Additionally, social entrepreneurs like Sergi Figueres, co-founder and CEO of Worldcoo, and Diego Hidalgo, founder of Amovens, have also joined the cause.
Francisco Polo, the founder of MOVEMENTS, expressed the uniqueness of this support: “We are witnessing something rare: people who not only support causes but also want to develop and sustain them over time. That completely changes the game.”
A Unique Position in the CivicTech Landscape
While MOVEMENTS operates in the CivicTech space, it stands out due to the limited comparable platforms focused on citizen mobilization. Instead, it draws parallels with community, participation, and impact platforms. For instance, Madrid-based Akka has channeled nearly €9 million into tech companies, while Lisbon’s Goparity raised €2.9 million to finance impactful projects. Other notable mentions include Milan’s Waveful and London’s Unfabled, which have also made strides in community-driven initiatives.
Despite its smaller funding size, MOVEMENTS’ €300k pre-Seed round reflects a broader trend of investment flowing into platforms that prioritize organized communities and digital infrastructure.
The Vision Behind MOVEMENTS
Founded in 2025, MOVEMENTS aims to empower activists and organizations by providing tools that have traditionally been accessible only to large institutions. The mission is clear: to enable any cause with genuine purpose to maximize its impact potential. Polo emphasizes this vision, stating, “Our goal is not just to grow, but to redefine how power is built in society. That involves providing anyone with the tools to start, scale, and sustain their cause on a global scale.”
Impressive Growth Metrics
Since its inception, MOVEMENTS has experienced remarkable growth. The platform saw a staggering 940% increase in December 2025, followed by a 127% rise in January 2026, and an astonishing 3,184% growth in February 2026. Such metrics highlight the platform’s rapid adoption and the increasing demand for tools that facilitate civic engagement.
Notable Movements on the Platform
One of the standout movements launched on MOVEMENTS is Sanidad Pública Segura (Safe Public Healthcare). This initiative, led by Dr. Tamara Contreras, successfully gathered over 100,000 signatures in just five weeks, bringing the critical issue of patient safety to the forefront of political discourse in Spain.
Another significant movement is Generation Zero Nukes, spearheaded by Nobel Peace Prize laureate Carlos Umaña, which has reignited public debate regarding Spain’s nuclear weapons policy.
Additionally, the initiative Signos que cambian el mundo (Signs that Change the World), led by deaf activist Marcos Lechet, has mobilized support for compliance with sign language legislation. This movement has garnered endorsements from influential figures in the deaf community, including young sign language educator Nora, who has a substantial following on Instagram.
Future Plans and Product Development
Following this initial funding milestone, MOVEMENTS is poised to enter a new phase focused on consolidating its product and scaling its model. In April, the company plans to finalize its Minimum Viable Product (MVP) by launching a subscription system. This will enable movements to generate recurring revenue, ensuring their long-term sustainability.
Looking ahead, MOVEMENTS is preparing for its Seed round, scheduled for June 2026. The company has two primary objectives for this round: developing an agent-based artificial intelligence system to optimize the creation and management of movements, and expanding internationally, with a particular focus on the United States.
A Vision for Global Impact
The overarching aim is to establish MOVEMENTS as a global infrastructure for creating movements, seamlessly integrating technology, funding, and influence within a single ecosystem. As the platform continues to grow, it holds the potential to redefine how citizen movements operate, making it easier for individuals to effect change in their communities and beyond.
