Elevating Community Welfare: The Cabildo de Fuerteventura’s Commitment to Quality of Life and Dependence

The Cabildo de Fuerteventura has officially formalized its biannual agreements on quality of life and dependence with the six municipalities of the island. This initiative reflects a strong commitment to enhance the well-being of residents, with a remarkable allocation of over 3.4 million euros dedicated to funding programs and services aimed at supporting individuals in vulnerable situations for the years 2025 and 2026.

A Streamlined Cooperation Between Administrations

The signing ceremony was a significant event attended by prominent figures, including Presidential Officer Lola García and Social Action Counselor Víctor Alonso. Accompanied by representatives from municipal governments and technical staff involved in social programs, mayors and councilors from Puerto del Rosario, La Oliva, Betancuria, Antigua, Pájara, and Tuineje reaffirmed their collective commitment to improving the social support network across the island.

This collaborative effort showcases the importance of unity in tackling social issues. The presence of local leaders indicates a robust commitment to joint action aimed at enhancing community welfare.

A Boost to Municipal Social Services

During the ceremony, President Lola García emphasized the vital role these agreements play in ensuring the continuity of social care services, which remain a top priority for the Cabildo. She praised the everyday contributions of municipal teams who stand by the most vulnerable citizens, acknowledging their dedication and hard work.

Counselor Víctor Alonso elaborated on the significance of this funding, noting that it will not only sustain existing services but also expand professional teams in local municipalities. The initiative will enable the hiring of 34 specialists in critical areas such as psychology, social work, family education, administration, and home assistance. These roles are essential for directly addressing the needs of Fuerteventura’s citizens.

Focus on Vulnerable Communities

The allocated funds are poised to strengthen community social services, alongside enhancing programs aimed at social emergency, support for women victims of gender violence, and assistance for children and families. These proactive measures are part of a broader strategy to ensure comprehensive responses to the diverse needs of various vulnerable groups.

The results from 2024 illustrate the impact of such collaborative efforts. Almost 10,000 individuals across various municipalities benefitted from these social initiatives, underscoring the importance of maintaining and expanding these agreements.

Towards Greater Investment in Social Welfare

In addition to the signed agreements with the municipalities, the Cabildo is set to soon finalize accords with the Centro-Sur Mancomunidad. This will elevate the total investment dedicated to social welfare on the island to nearly four million euros.

This proactive strategy signifies the island’s intention to cultivate a more inclusive, supportive, and committed community, focused on elevating the quality of life for all its residents. The Cabildo de Fuerteventura continues to strengthen its social commitment with these quality of life and dependence agreements, paving the way toward a more resilient and compassionate society.
