II OCR Danger Extreme: A Spectacular Display in Antigua, Fuerteventura
The municipality of Antigua in Fuerteventura recently donned its finest colors to host the thrilling II OCR Danger Extreme, an obstacle course race that has quickly become a highlight of the local sporting calendar. This year’s event was vibrant, engaging, and refreshing—an unforgettable spectacle for both participants and spectators alike.
Champions of the Elite Division
The Elite category showcased some of the finest athletic talent on the island. Taking first place was Yeray Cabrera Martín, who registered an impressive time of 51:22. Cabrera, a member of the FuerteMonkey club, is no stranger to victory; he previously clinched gold at the European OCR Championship held in Hungary last year. Following him were Luis Manuel García Pérez of the Arena Palace club, who finished second in 55:21, and José Damas Hernández, also from FuerteMonkey, who secured third place with a time of 1:00:39.
In the popular division, the excitement continued to unfold. Raúl Siles González, representing TeamDestroyer, emerged victorious in the male category with a commendable time of 45:11. The competition was fierce, with Eduardo López Dorta coming in second at 51:01, and Zebensui De La Cruz taking third place with a time of 58:29.
Inspirational Female Competitors
The race also drew a remarkable group of female competitors. Brenda Sánchez Olivares from the Endurance Cuerpo y Mente club was the first woman to cross the finish line, completing the course in 01:09:16. She was closely followed by Mariana Andrea Martínez, who clocked in at 01:10:04, with Leticia Espino Hernández from the Functional Team Fuerteventura rounding out the top three at 01:11:28.
A Record Participation
This year’s OCR Danger Extreme drew a record-breaking 232 participants across both the Elite and Popular categories. Athletes and spectators alike flocked to the stunning El Castillo beach in Caleta de Fuste, eager to witness the adrenaline-fueled action. Competitors tackled a grueling six kilometers filled with 35 challenging obstacles, ultimately testing their physical and mental endurance.
The II OCR Danger Extreme is part of the OCR Canaria League, and this year’s highlights included an updated and more dynamic inflatable castle, which exceeded expectations from the previous edition. Participants in the Elite category faced an even more demanding challenge, featuring a vertical climbing wall and a thrilling descent on a rope ramp.
Challenging Obstacles and Community Spirit
The race was not just about speed; it combined elements of land and water, featuring suspension challenges, archery, and inflatables that pushed the limits of nearly 250 participants. Those numbers reflect a growing enthusiasm for obstacle course racing in the Canary Islands, with many expressing their anticipation for next year’s edition.
Samuel Torres, the sports councilor for Antigua, expressed his satisfaction with the event: “It has been a success, and all participants can consider themselves true champions. The course was as fun as it was challenging. My congratulations extend also to the CD Más Eventos for their outstanding work in helping make this significant event a reality.”
Acknowledgments and Future Plans
Organizer Romina González, president of the CD Más Eventos, shared her gratitude for the invaluable support received from the Antigua Town Hall and the OCR Canaria League. She emphasized the critical role the town hall played, funding 90% of the race. “Without their support and collaboration, organizing such an event would be impossible. We are excited to work on new dates, a fresh lineup, and innovative projects,” she explained.
Reflecting on the day’s festivities, the II OCR Danger Extreme was a testament to the community’s spirit and dedication to athletics, setting the stage for an even more captivating event next year. The collaboration between CD Más Eventos and the Antigua Town Hall underscored the strong commitment to provide high-caliber sporting events that inspire and engage participants from all walks of life.
