This past Saturday, the XXXVI edition of the Agricultural, Livestock, and Fishing Fair in Fuerteventura proudly showcased a riveting stallion auction, where a notable twenty male specimens took center stage. Held in a lively atmosphere, the event gathered farmers, breeders, and livestock enthusiasts alike, all eager to witness the competitive bidding and celebrate the rich agricultural heritage of the island.
Highlights of the Stallion Auction
The auction saw a flurry of excitement, particularly when a striking Morisco negro stallion bred by Esteban Rodríguez from Lajares commanded the highest bid of the day—1,425 euros—by Agustín Castro of La Pared. This exquisite specimen not only highlighted the quality of livestock present but also underscored the importance of genetic improvement within the local breeding community.
In a thrilling turn of events, the second-highest bid of 1,200 euros was placed on another stallion from the breeding farm of Jennifer Pérez Cabrera, securing the purchase for Esteban Rodríguez himself. Additionally, the third highest bid was a stallion sold for 650 euros, purchased by Julio Alberto Barrios of La Oliva. The event was made possible through the collaborative efforts of the Association of Goat Breeders of Fuerteventura. - 9 native cows
- 2 Palmera cows
- 3 native bulls
- 1 Palmera bull
- 10 local calves
- 9 camels
- 15 donkeys
