Aemet Forecasts Temperature Decline in Tenerife, Yet Many Regions Will Surpass 30°C

Tenerife Weather Update: A Shift in Temperatures

Tenerife, the largest of the Canary Islands, is bracing for a notable drop in temperatures this Wednesday, according to the latest forecast from the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet). While some areas will still bask in warmth, the overall trend points to a cooler day ahead.

Temperature Trends Across the Island

In Santa Cruz de Tenerife, temperatures are expected to range from a minimum of 21 degrees Celsius to a maximum of 29 degrees. This slight dip in temperature is a welcome change for many, especially after the recent heat waves that have gripped the island.

Other regions will also experience similar fluctuations. For instance, in La Gomera, temperatures will hover between 22 and 28 degrees, while Santa Cruz de La Palma will see a range of 21 to 26 degrees. The island of El Hierro will be slightly cooler, with temperatures expected to reach between 18 and 25 degrees.

Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, and Fuerteventura will also experience warm conditions, with mid-land regions of Gran Canaria potentially exceeding 34 degrees. Lanzarote and Fuerteventura are forecasted to see temperatures around 30 degrees, making them ideal spots for sun-seekers.

Weather Conditions: Haze and Clouds

As the day progresses, light haze that has settled in the mid- and high-altitude regions is expected to gradually clear. This will provide clearer skies for most of the island, although the northern parts may experience some cloudy intervals.

The rest of Tenerife should enjoy mostly clear or slightly cloudy skies, perfect for outdoor activities. Whether you’re planning a hike in the Teide National Park or a leisurely stroll along the beach, the weather will be conducive to enjoying the island’s natural beauty.

Wind Patterns and Warnings

Winds are predicted to decrease in intensity throughout the day. However, in exposed areas, particularly in the southeast and northwest regions, gusts may still be strong. Aemet has issued a yellow warning for wind in La Gomera, which will remain in effect until 11:00 AM.

In maritime areas, northeast winds are expected to reach strengths of 5 to 6, with occasional gusts hitting 7 around the mountainous islands. This could create challenging conditions for sailors and those planning water activities.

Sea Conditions: Swells and Waves

As the day unfolds, significant swells are anticipated, leading to rough seas. Wave heights are expected to range between one and two meters, making it essential for those venturing out to sea to exercise caution. The combination of strong winds and rough waters could pose risks for smaller vessels.
