COSMO’s EL MISMO Strengthens Its Festival Run with Two New Awards
A Celebrated Achievement
On May 27, 2026, COSMO’s short film El mismo garnered significant recognition by winning two prestigious awards: Best Animated Short Film and the Special Audience Award at the Mula Spanish Film Week. This double accolade not only highlights the film’s artistic merit but also reinforces COSMO’s commitment to social causes. The Special Audience Award comes with a cash prize of €1,000, which COSMO and Algarabía Animación have pledged to donate to organizations dedicated to combating gender-based violence, a cause they have actively supported over the years.
Festival Circuit Success
Since its premiere on November 25, 2025—coinciding with the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women—El mismo has made waves across various film festivals. The short film has been selected for approximately ten festivals, showcasing its appeal both nationally and internationally. Notably, it participated in Athens Animfest, Greece’s oldest animation festival, and is set to feature at the Muma Patagonia Audiovisual Festival in Argentina, which focuses on works by women and gender-diverse creators.
In Spain, El mismo has also made a mark by being a finalist at the Fugaz Awards, a key platform for recognizing Spanish short films. It has been selected for the Medina del Campo Film Week, a qualifying festival for the Goya Awards, as well as the Cans Festival, the Novelda Film Festival – Acan Awards, and the Vilafamés International Film Festival. Additionally, it received a nomination at the Mestre Mateo Awards, presented by the Galician Audiovisual Academy, in the category of Best Animated Short Film.
A Commitment to Social Causes
Before its official premiere on COSMO, El mismo was showcased at the Almería International Film Festival (FICAL), one of Spain’s most esteemed film events. This initial screening marked the beginning of the film’s journey and underscored COSMO’s long-standing dedication to social issues, along with its unique creative vision as a channel.
Press Kit Recognition
Beyond its festival presence, the press kit created to promote El mismo has also been nominated for the GEMA Europe Awards, which honor excellence in design, creativity, and marketing within the entertainment industry. This recognition emphasizes the film’s impact not just as an audiovisual piece, but as a creative project with a strong identity across all its communication materials.
Creative Team Behind El mismo
Directed by Virginia Curiá, El mismo tackles a critical yet often overlooked issue: the connection between violence against women and suicidal behavior. The film is executive produced by Tomás Conde, under COSMO’s supervision, with the screenplay crafted by Inés Pintor and Pablo Santidrián, known for their work on The Time It Takes.
COSMO’s Track Record
These recent accolades contribute to COSMO’s impressive portfolio of original short films, which have collectively received over 70 awards and around 300 festival selections globally. Among these achievements is the shortlist selection of 17 minutos con Nora for the 2023 Goya Awards, further solidifying COSMO’s reputation in the realm of impactful storytelling.
