Diversification: The Essential Strategy for Portfolio Development

According to the Business Angels 2026 report by AEBAN and IESE, between 50% and 70% of early-stage startup investments do not generate returns. The key, therefore, is not to get every bet right, but to build a portfolio that is broad and diverse enough to capture as much value as possible.

At Encomenda, we have long been applying exactly this principle. We do not only invest in technology; we invest in technology applied across very different sectors. Multisector diversification is not a consequence of our strategy—it is its core.

Here are eight of our portfolio companies that exemplify this approach:

Cuimo

Cuimo is an innovative online platform for the sale of reconditioned motorcycles, transforming a traditionally local and opaque market. By purchasing motorcycles directly, inspecting and refurbishing them, and delivering them to buyers within 72 hours with a professional warranty, Cuimo has already surpassed 1,500 units sold in Q1 2026, growing at an impressive 2.1x compared to the same period last year.

Ezpays

Ezpays is a B2B platform that automates payment collection through open banking, streamlining the entire process from invoicing to debt recovery. This technology has proven effective, reducing late payments by 30% and improving cash flow by 25%, making it a valuable tool for businesses.

Ecostars

Ecostars is a B2B ESG SaaS platform tailored for the hotel sector, recognized by the World Tourism Organization and aligned with international GSTC standards. With over 2,500 hotels certified across more than 40 countries, it has become the leading ESG certification in Western Europe. Notably, RIU Hotels & Resorts recently certified 100% of its operating hotels with Ecostars, marking a significant milestone in sustainability.

Abastores

Abastores is the first online platform specializing in the B2B grain market, connecting farmers, storage operators, and manufacturers directly with real-time pricing. By removing intermediaries, it has facilitated over €30 million in transactions and boasts more than 6,000 registered farmers. Its innovative approach has earned it the Rural Innovative Entrepreneurship Award and the Rural Startup Award.

Rebel Tickets

Rebel Tickets stands out as the only Spain-founded ticket resale platform that provides a safe and transparent alternative to irregular secondary ticket markets. Its technology automatically verifies ticket validity and transfers ownership, effectively eliminating fraud and inflated prices. Recently, it secured a significant agreement with the Cooltural Festival, valued at €70,000.

Tu Trámite Fácil

Tu Trámite Fácil is a platform that automates the detection, management, and processing of public grants for individuals and families in Spain. By reducing processing time to under 2 minutes per user and achieving a remarkable 74.59% success rate, it has been recognized among the 50 most innovative startups in Spain in the Emprendedores 2025 list.

Bcount

Bcount offers an all-in-one platform for accounting, tax, and payroll automation tailored for SMEs, micro-enterprises, and freelancers. Acting as the fiscal operating system of a business, it connects to banking, categorizes transactions, issues invoices adapted to Verifactu, and manages payroll from a single environment. In its first year, Bcount quadrupled its growth, showcasing its potential in the market.

CarHub

CarHub is a B2C marketplace that allows individuals to buy used cars across Europe, ensuring they receive inspected, imported, registered, and ready-to-drive vehicles in Spain at 15% below local market prices. In its inaugural year, CarHub has already attracted over 60 customers, generating total savings exceeding €180,000.

What these eight companies have in common is not just their diverse sectors, but a shared conviction that real problems exist across various markets. From motorcycle trading to public grant management, and from ticket resale to hotel sustainability, each company embodies what we seek at Encomenda: models with genuine traction, teams with deep sector expertise, and scalable potential.

This diversity is what strengthens our portfolio. We do not place our bets on a single vertical or trend; instead, we build a portfolio where the success of one company does not hinge on the performance of others. This strategic approach not only mitigates risk but also enhances our ability to capture value across a wide array of markets.
