Planning for FEAGA 2026: A Collaborative Effort in Fuerteventura

The Cabildo de Fuerteventura recently convened a significant meeting with key figures from the local primary sector. The goal was to facilitate coordination for their participation in the highly anticipated Feria de Agricultura, Ganadería y Pesca de Fuerteventura (FEAGA 2026), scheduled to take place from April 16 to 19. This fair captures the essence of Fuerteventura’s agricultural and livestock heritage, making it a critical event for local stakeholders.

Leadership and Participation

The meeting, which unfolded this past Thursday, was spearheaded by the insular president, Lola García, and Enrique Pérez, the new counselor for Agriculture, Livestock, and Fishing. Both leaders expressed their commitment to ensuring that the voices and suggestions of local professionals are integral to the planning process. This approach fosters a sense of community and shared purpose, making the upcoming edition of FEAGA both relevant and engaging.

Among those present were representatives from the Consejería, the Granja Experimental de Pozo Negro, and various local council members, including:

  • Alexis Alonso (Pájara)
  • José Díaz (Pájara)
  • Jonathan Peña (Tuineje)
  • José Cerdeña (Betancuria)
  • David de León (Puerto del Rosario)
  • Rubén González (La Oliva)

Notably absent was the municipality of Antigua, drawing attention to its lack of participation in this crucial planning phase.

A Foundation Built on Collaboration

Lola García emphasized the essential role that the primary sector plays in the success of FEAGA. Reflecting on past editions, she remarked that the active involvement of local professionals has been key to solidifying the event’s reputation. “The fair belongs to the sector’s professionals, making it vital to hold such coordination meetings to ensure everyone can participate in its development,” García stated.

Addressing Sector Needs

Enrique Pérez expanded on the discussion by highlighting the immense contributions of primary sector professionals to FEAGA. Their involvement enriches various segments of the fair, including livestock exhibitions, local product showcases, technical workshops, and competitive events. “Without their contributions, none of this would be possible,” he asserted.

During the meeting, discussions also revolved around upcoming initiatives and support programs for the primary sector, which Pérez and García elaborated on. They took the opportunity to address concerns and demands raised by sector professionals, showcasing the administration’s commitment to responsive governance.

Preparing for Future Aspirations

As Fuerteventura gears up for FEAGA 2026, the focus is on collaboration and shared objectives. The integration of feedback from local professionals and stakeholders enhances the fair’s planning process, ensuring that it remains a vibrant platform for showcasing the island’s agricultural and fishing sectors.

With anticipation building, the collaborative spirit displayed in this meeting signals a positive trajectory for both FEAGA and the primary sector in Fuerteventura, reinforcing the fair’s significance in fostering community engagement and celebrating local heritage.
