Founded by a trio of students from Bogotá—Felipe Chavez, David Rodriguez, and Sergio Pachon—Kiwibot aims to provide affordable delivery solutions primarily targeting students. With a fleet of mini delivery robots, the company has managed to reduce delivery costs by three to five times compared to traditional services. The delivery robot market is projected to reach a staggering $2.1 billion by 2030, and Kiwibot is well-positioned to capitalize on this growth.

Headquartered in Medellín and Rionegro, Kiwibot handles its hardware, software, and a portion of robot manufacturing locally, employing a predominantly Colombian workforce. Initially launched in Colombia, Kiwibot has expanded its operations to the United States, where it now serves 29 university campuses from California to Delaware.

Vector Foods: Premium Snacks Made in Colombia

Another notable startup is Vector Foods, which specializes in premium snacks that celebrate Colombian natural products. Founded by four friends from Medellín—José Ricardo Betancur, Alejandro Agudelo, Nicolas Eberl, and Ricardo Ramirez—Vector Foods has quickly made a name for itself with two main brands: MonteRojo, which focuses on culinary experiences, and UAU!, a healthy snack brand. Since its inception in 2015, the company has not only conquered the Colombian market but is also expanding internationally, with a presence in the United States, Australia, Mexico, and Panama.

Action Black: Colombia’s Finest Fitness Startup

Action Black stands out in the fitness sector, offering a unique blend of collective yet personalized workouts. Established in Medellín in 2015, this gym chain has rapidly grown to become one of Colombia’s largest, with branches in major cities like Bogotá and Barranquilla. The brand’s ambitions extend beyond national borders; in 2024, Action Black opened a location in New York City, and its CEO, Wilder Zapata, has plans for global expansion. With 137 centers already operational, the brand is also present in cities like Guadalajara, Madrid, and Rio de Janeiro, with future plans for Miami, Dubai, and China.

Finaktiva: The Colombian Fintech Pioneer

In the realm of finance, Finaktiva has emerged as a pioneer in digital lending. Founded in Medellín by Pablo Santos, Ana Maria Portillo, and Jorge Leon, the company focuses on providing investment and loan solutions for micro, small, and medium-sized businesses that often struggle to access traditional financial services. Since its launch in 2017, Finaktiva has financed over 13,000 companies, amounting to more than $13 billion. In 2023, the company achieved a record 150,000 financial transactions, marking a 61% increase in revenue. While currently active only in Colombia, Finaktiva has ambitious plans for expansion across Latin America.

Liftit: Enhancing Logistics in Latin America

Liftit is another innovative startup making waves in the logistics sector. Founded in 2017 by Brian York, Angel Celis Botto, and Felipe Betancourt, Liftit specializes in intelligent transport logistics, optimizing cargo movements and shipping times through advanced technology. The company’s proprietary Transport Management System allows for real-time tracking and route optimization, making it a key player in the logistics landscape of Colombia, Mexico, and Ecuador.


Colombia’s startup scene is a testament to the country’s entrepreneurial spirit and innovative potential. With a diverse range of sectors represented, from tech and food to fitness and finance, the future looks bright for Colombian startups as they continue to make their mark both locally and internationally.
