ÓperaFuerteventura: Celebrating a Decade of Musical Excellence
ÓperaFuerteventura is gearing up for an unforgettable 2025 season filled with premieres and prestigious productions. This new chapter coincides with the festival’s tenth anniversary, solidifying its commitment to opera and its enduring presence in the cultural landscape of Fuerteventura.
A Decade of Dedication
Artistic director José Concepción has expressed heartfelt gratitude to various stakeholders, including local administrations, community groups, businesses, and media representatives, acknowledging their contributions over the past ten years. His reflections highlight the evolution of ÓperaFuerteventura, which has successfully expanded its repertoire with ten editions of its renowned festival along with a variety of performances in different towns across the island.
Democratizing Opera
Cultural Councilor Rayco León took the opportunity to commend the festival’s aim to democratize opera. “This project has increasingly fostered participation from diverse communities and associations,” he stated. León emphasized that the impact of the festival transcends the stage, encompassing substantial behind-the-scenes efforts worthy of recognition.
A Holistic Approach to Culture
Horacio Umpiérrez, the Deputy Cultural Minister of the Government of the Canary Islands, congratulated ÓperaFuerteventura on its tenth anniversary. He noted the extensive programming designed to reach various audience demographics, which now includes innovative offerings like La Leyenda del Tramonante. This diverse lineup showcases the festival’s success in catering to a wide array of interests and preferences.
Local Support and Recognition
Enrique Cerdeña, the Mayor of Betancuria, highlighted the significant labor behind opera performances, emphasizing the importance of continued collaboration to support the arts. Meanwhile, Juan Jiménez, the Cultural Councilor of Puerto del Rosario, praised the festival’s evolution, noting that it has engaged hundreds of participants and garnered acclaim well beyond the borders of Fuerteventura.
Marlene Figueroa, a tourism advisor from the Cabildo, acknowledged the festival’s integration into both the cultural agenda and the tourism appeal of Fuerteventura. “ÓperaFuerteventura has become an essential part of our destination,” she remarked.
Upcoming Events to Anticipate
As the excitement builds for the 2025 season, several key events are on the horizon. On March 14, the fourth edition of Krayla, un arpa y 200 velas will return, promising a magical atmosphere as it tours various neighborhoods in Puerto del Rosario with harpist Mercedes Villarino.
The season’s highlight will undoubtedly be the world premiere of the second installment of Leyendas de Fuerteventura, featuring Mahan El Gigante by Igor Escudero on April 26 in Betancuria. This outdoor, free event is expected to be a community favorite.
To celebrate a decade of opera, a children’s lyrical festival will take place from June 9 to 14, featuring performances of Hansel y Gretel across all municipalities.
Finally, the crowning event will be the X Festival ÓperaFuerteventura on November 29, showcasing the grand production of Don Carlo, one of the operatic repertoire’s masterpieces.
