From May 19 to 21, 2026, the Insular Tourism Board of Fuerteventura took part in IMEX Frankfurt, one of the leading international fairs in the congresses, meetings, and incentives sector. This significant participation underlines the island’s commitment to strengthening its position in the European MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) market.

Fuerteventura appeared at the fair within a joint space with Turespaña and Promotur Turismo de Canarias, but also had its own area as a co-exhibitor within the Spanish pavilion. During this event, the Insular Tourism Board held meetings with buyers and specialized agents to showcase the island’s offerings for corporate events and congresses.

An Investment in Business Tourism

This year, the promotional focus was on introducing attendees to essential infrastructure such as the Congress Palace, alongside unique spaces and accommodations tailored to this type of tourism. The board also emphasized the island’s direct air connectivity with major cities including Frankfurt, London, Amsterdam, Paris, Madrid, and Barcelona, expanding its appeal as a premier business destination.

Additionally, the concept of “bleisure,” which combines business travel with leisure activities, was highlighted. With its favorable climate, stunning landscapes, and a plethora of outdoor activities, Fuerteventura emerges as an attractive destination for participants in international conferences and events.

A Strategic Segment for the Economy

Marlene Figueroa, the Tourism Counselor of the Cabildo and Vice President of the Board, emphasized that MICE tourism aligns with the strategy to attract higher-value visitors while diversifying the island’s tourism economy. According to data from Turespaña, business travelers typically exhibit higher daily spending compared to traditional leisure visitors. Consequently, the board views this segment as vital for the sustainable growth of Fuerteventura’s tourism sector.

This year’s IMEX Frankfurt brought together thousands of professionals and companies involved in the meetings and events industry from over 150 countries. Through its participation, Fuerteventura continues to strengthen commercial relationships and expand its presence in one of the world’s most pivotal tourist markets, reinforcing its identity as an essential destination for congresses and events.
