Fuerteventura Set to Host Exciting Women’s Football Match

For the very first time, Fuerteventura will host an official preseason match featuring two teams from the Primera División of Spanish women’s football. On July 29th, the Estadio Municipal de Los Pozos in Puerto del Rosario will be the venue for the inaugural I Torneo Fuerteventura FutFem Coral Hotels. The clash will see CD Tenerife Costa Adeje take on RCD Espanyol in an event that promises high-stakes competition and free entry for fans, lovingly broadcasted by Televisión Canaria.

Boosting Women’s Sports on the Island

This groundbreaking initiative is significantly backed by the Cabildo de Fuerteventura, which aims to attract top-tier sports events to the island. The project not only seeks to enhance the visibility of women’s sports but also works to inspire local youth—particularly aspiring female athletes—by providing them access to professional footballing role models. In collaboration with the local government, the Ayuntamiento de Puerto del Rosario is generously providing the facilities for the match.

A Proud Moment for Local Leadership

Lola García, President of the Cabildo de Fuerteventura, expressed her enthusiasm: “It’s a satisfaction to have Fuerteventura host a match of this nature, placing the island on the national map of women’s football and bringing elite sports closer to our community. We intend to keep driving initiatives that inspire our girls and consolidate Fuerteventura as a premier destination for major sporting events.”

Expanding the Island’s Sports Landscape

Luis González, the Sports Councillor, further emphasized the importance of this event. “This match represents another step in our efforts to diversify the sporting offerings on the island while continuing to support the growth of women’s sports. We invite all fans and the local sports community to enjoy this top-tier spectacle, which citizens can follow for free.”

Match Details and Insights

The highly anticipated match is set to kick off at 18:15 in the Estadio Municipal de Los Pozos, bringing together two historic sides in Spanish women’s football. This tournament aims for continuity, suggesting that Fuerteventura could become a regular stop in the women’s football calendar.

Youth Initiative: Football Clinic for Young Girls

In an additional effort to empower the next generation of female footballers, the presence of CD Tenerife Costa Adeje will enable a special educational experience. On July 30th and 31st, the Fundación Canaria CD Tenerife will host a free clinic designed for girls aged 10 to 16 at the El Cotillo football field.

This unique opportunity offers up to 40 slots and promises a well-rounded experience that includes training sessions led by seasoned professionals associated with the Tenerife club. Participants will also receive breakfast, sports gear, a welcome kit, a diploma, and a medal—insuring a memorable experience for all involved.

Collaborative Spirit Behind the Clinic

This clinic is made possible through the collaborative efforts of the Cabildo de Fuerteventura, the Gobierno de Canarias, Coral Hotels, and other local organizations, including the Fundación Canaria de la Federación Interinsular de Fútbol de Las Palmas and the Ayuntamiento de La Oliva.

Registrations for the clinic are currently open through the Fundación Tenerife Costa Adeje. Those interested can find further details by visiting www.tenerifefemenino.com.

With these initiatives, Fuerteventura is making significant strides to cultivate a vibrant sports culture, especially for women, and is poised to be a hotspot for exciting events in the near future.
