In a significant gathering aimed at enhancing community support, Antigua’s Mayor Matías Peña, along with key council figures—Councilor of Social Services and Education, América Soto, and Cultural Councilor, Jonathan Peña—met with Fabiola Moreno and Cora Naranjo, representatives from the Fundación Canaria de Apoyo a los Trastornos del Neurodesarrollo (FUNTEAC). This meeting marks an important step in promoting awareness and resources for families affected by neurodevelopmental disorders.
Relocation and Expansion of FUNTEAC
In April 2022, FUNTEAC relocated its headquarters from Gran Canaria to Fuerteventura, signifying a commitment to extending its services to the local community. The foundation has since organized meetings and training workshops designed to reach families across the island, including those in Antigua. This strategic move illustrates FUNTEAC’s dedication to providing essential services and building local connections.
Connecting with Families
Fabiola Moreno emphasized the foundation’s ongoing mission to engage families with children suffering from neurodevelopmental disorders, including various degrees of autism. “The objective, which has been partially achieved, remains to establish contact with those families,” she explains. The initiative focuses on making these families feel supported, reinforcing their social networks while improving their children’s cognitive development and overall quality of life.

He stated, “In this framework of action, you’ll find us by your side.” The local government plans to gradually increase its financial support, which could cover up to €15,000 annually in expenses for the foundation. This backing is crucial for ensuring that families receive the necessary help without financial strain.
