Futuro Ancestral: A Transformation of Social Consciousness through Music
The upcoming album Futuro Ancestral is more than just a collection of songs; it encapsulates a profound social anxiety and transforms it into a rich tapestry of music rooted in tradition. “It’s a very conscious album, one aimed at opening minds. There are ironic songs, some that discuss confronting fears, and others that lean towards the poetic. I even created a character that is a Frankenstein of many current politicians. I feel it’s not the time to tiptoe around these issues,” the artist, Macaco, explained during a recent interview.
This multifaceted work melds diverse genres, including rumba, bugalú, flamenco tangos, afrobeat, and cumbia. Among these vibrant sounds, there lies a deeply personal track: a bolero titled Perder en la guerra, pero no el amor (To Lose in War, But Not in Love), which carries a powerful message. The second single released from the album, Pasaste Tú, invites listeners to reconnect with their inner child, as Macaco describes it: “It speaks about that special person who helps you silence the external noise and connect deeply with your essence.”
The Unmistakable Macaco Stamp
While Macaco ventures into fresh sonic territories and explores different vocal registers, he retains a distinct artistic style that is unmistakably his own. He says, “I’ve sometimes played with the idea of not sounding like myself, but everyone tells me I have a clear stamp. I may not be the best singer in the world, but I want my songs to be imbued with poetry and metaphors that provoke thought.” His influences range from revered artists like Joaquín Sabina, Bob Dylan, and Bob Marley, underscoring a commitment to lyrical substance over mere vocal prowess.
An Emotional and Joyous Concert Experience
Looking ahead to his concert in Puerto del Rosario, Macaco promises an event that is as emotionally rich as it is exhilarating. “I want the audience to dance, laugh, participate, sing, feel moved, and even cry tears of joy. It will be like a cinematic journey: moments of high energy, low beats, and back up again,” he shared with enthusiasm.
The concert will be a retrospective of Macaco’s musical evolution, featuring beloved classics like Moving and Love is the Only Way, alongside new tracks from Futuro Ancestral. “Those coming should prepare to dance, chant, and leap. I want it all to happen!” he chuckled, hinting at the dynamic atmosphere that awaits attendees.
