Improvements in Access to El Cotillo’s Muellito: A New Pedestrian Pathway
The town of La Oliva is making a significant investment to enhance accessibility to one of its most iconic locations, the Muellito de El Cotillo. With a budget of €72,856, the local government has successfully awarded a contract for a project aimed at upgrading the access routes to this beloved area from the neighboring streets. The selected contractor for this important initiative is Antonio Ramón Puig Hernández e Hijos SLU, who is set to commence work shortly.
Revitalizing Degraded Areas
The current condition of the approach to Muellito is far from ideal, and the municipality is committed to transforming this degraded zone into a welcoming space. The ambitious goal is to construct a pedestrian path that connects the rear streets to the Muellito, effectively overcoming the existing elevation changes. This will not only make the area more accessible, but also create a viewpoint for enjoying the stunning ocean views from elevated pathways.
At the core of the project titled ‘Acondicionamiento y pavimentación de zonas libres y espacios públicos en El Cotillo’, is the focus on making the arrival to Muellito more pedestrian-friendly from Guillermo Gutiérrez Street. This initiative represents yet another step in the ongoing improvements the town continues to implement around this popular spot.
Commitment from Local Leaders
La Oliva’s Mayor, Isaí Blanco, highlighted the importance of the Muellito as an emblematic gathering place in this fishing community, which is home to many popular restaurants. He emphasized that this project aims to facilitate a more pleasant journey to Muellito through the newly created pedestrian zone. Mayor Blanco expressed optimism about continuing to invest in necessary upgrades not only in El Cotillo but across other areas within the municipality.
Economic Overview and Future Investments
Juan José Rodríguez, the Councillor for Economy and Finance, provided insights into the financial aspects of this project. He noted that while this specific improvement is significant, it represents only a small fraction of a larger strategy. The local government is set to program around €7 million in investments this year, showcasing a broader commitment to enhancements across various sectors.
Expanding Access to the Sea
Interestingly, the El Cotillo project is part of a wider initiative that includes improvements to three additional coastal access points in the nearby area of Corralejo. Collectively, these projects are set to cost approximately €300,000. Work on these access points is scheduled to begin after the tourist season, which ensures minimal disruption to visitors.
Specifically, starting in September, renovations will commence on access routes from Avenida Nuestra Señora del Carmen, including the streets of La Red, Arístides Hernández Morán, and Poseidón. These efforts demonstrate the municipality’s dedication to enhancing access to its beautiful coastal areas, promoting both local tourism and community welfare.
