Marina Jandía Makes Its Debut as the Final Venue for the 44Cup 2025

The Exciting Finale of the 2025 RC44 Season: 44Cup Marina Jandía

As the sun sets on the 2025 sailing calendar, all eyes are on the spectacular 44Cup Marina Jandía. Taking place from November 20 to 23, this event promises an exhilarating conclusion to this year’s RC44 season. After debuting in Scheveningen, Netherlands, the competition makes its way to Marina Jandía, located on the southern tip of Fuerteventura in the stunning Canary Islands.

A New Nautical Destination

Marina Jandía is the latest jewel in the crown of the Calero Marinas brand. Developed under the guidance of Daniel Calero, the marina boasts over 300 moorings, accommodating vessels ranging from 6 meters to impressive superyachts measuring 50 meters in length. Even though construction on surrounding buildings is still underway, the marina is fully operational, marking it as the first major port facility of its kind on Fuerteventura.

The Allure of Fuerteventura

Fuerteventura, the second-largest island in the Canary archipelago, is famed for its stunning golden sand beaches and consistent winds, making it a haven for water sports enthusiasts and sailors alike. The island enjoys favorable conditions, thanks to the northeast trade winds, making it an international reference point for wind sports. Notably, it has hosted the World Cup of Fuerteventura for 37 years, now also welcoming the emerging sport of wingfoiling.

The 44Cup racecourse is strategically located near the charming village of Morro Jable and the picturesque Jandía Natural Reserve, showcasing some of the island’s most pristine and unspoiled beaches.

A Competitive Edge

Daniel Calero expresses his enthusiasm regarding the new addition to their portfolio: “Incorporating Fuerteventura is a significant step for Calero Marinas.” Yet, despite these optimistic statements, he candidly admits, “I’m not sure if we can consider ourselves ‘locals’ in Fuerteventura. Like the other teams, we’ll need to explore the area as we compete. It might be quite similar to the Virgin Islands.”

Marina Jandía sits at a unique position that offers protection from the fierce trade winds, while also providing multiple configurations for race setups. Chief Race Officer María Torrijo has the flexibility to move the race area further east in search of enhanced wind conditions or even Atlantic swell.

A Star-Studded Lineup

The Lanzarote Calero Sailing Team brings along a special addition for the Marina Jandía event: the reigning J/80 world champion, Alberto Padrón from Gran Canaria, who will step in as trimmer. This addition underscores the team’s commitment to bolstering its competitive edge as it faces nine other teams in the harbor.

Social Media Fame

Meanwhile, Daniel Calero has garnered unexpected attention on social media after an incident during the 44Cup in Scheveningen, where he took an unintentional plunge into the water amid a sharp heel. The video of his fall went viral, surpassing one million views. “I’m still surprised by the reach it has had,” he states, adding humor to the situation with a nod to the typical sarcastic inquiries he has received: “How was the water, Danny? Next time, I’ll hold on to Alfredo [González, the tactician] to avoid flying overboard.”

Looking Ahead

With the 2026 season in mind, Calero reflects on the fierce competition of the RC44 class. “It’s a very demanding and competitive class. We are working towards being as strong and consistent as possible for the next year.”

Event Schedule

As for the event itself, it features 10 participating teams and will kick off with training races on November 19 before the official competition begins on November 20. Excitement builds as the sailing community eagerly anticipates the declaration of the event winner and the 2025 44Cup champion.

This lively portrayal captures the essence of the upcoming RC44 season finale while inviting enthusiasts and onlookers alike to embrace the thrill of maritime competition in a setting as breathtaking as Fuerteventura.
