McDonald’s Expands in Fuerteventura: A New Chapter in Puerto del Rosario

On December 15, 2023, McDonald’s celebrated the grand opening of its second restaurant in Fuerteventura. Located on Carretera de Antigua, 12-14 in Puerto del Rosario, this new establishment marks a significant step in the company’s ambitious expansion plans across the province of Las Palmas.

A Commitment to Growth and Employment

The inauguration event was attended by local dignitaries including David de Vera, the Mayor of Puerto del Rosario, and Víctor Alonso Falcón, the Councillor for Social Policies, Training, and Human Resources for the Fuerteventura Cabildo. Mayor de Vera expressed his gratitude, emphasizing how the new McDonald’s will contribute to the local economy by creating jobs and enhancing the appeal of Puerto del Rosario as a prime location for both residents and visitors.

This new outlet is expected to create 40 new jobs, further solidifying McDonald’s commitment to local employment. Fermín Sánchez, the franchisee, highlighted his pride in opening a restaurant that aims to boost local activity. He thanked his team for their hard work and encouraged the community to explore the “magical space” that McDonald’s offers.

Enhanced Customer Experience

The Puerto del Rosario McDonald’s spans 340 square meters, integrating both indoor seating and an outdoor terrace. Modern amenities include digital kiosks for ordering, table service, mobile charging stations, a McAuto drive-thru, and McCafé offerings, making it a multifaceted dining option. Moreover, the MyOrder platform allows customers to place orders from anywhere at their convenience, coupled with a McDelivery service and an outdoor play area for children.

McDonald’s Commitment to Local Sourcing

A defining aspect of McDonald’s operational philosophy is its commitment to sourcing local ingredients. Over 70% of the company’s purchasing volume derives from Spanish suppliers or those based within the country, highlighting the chain’s dedication to regional partnerships. This focus not only ensures product quality but also supports the local economy, which is particularly vital in tourist-driven regions like Fuerteventura.

Connecting with the Community

McDonald’s presence in Fuerteventura dates back over a decade, with its first establishment located in the tourist hotspot of El Castillo, favored by British tourists. The recent expansion in Puerto del Rosario marks a shift towards serving more local residents, reflecting the company’s desire to engage with the community. This new focus comes alongside the introduction of the McDelivery service, catering to the growing demand for home delivery options.

A Strategic Location

The choice of Puerto del Rosario for McDonald’s second location in Fuerteventura is strategic, targeting a broader demographic of local customers in addition to tourists. This dual focus promises to create a vibrant community dining space that meets the needs of various clientele, from families enjoying a meal out to individuals seeking convenience.

As the new restaurant officially opens its doors, the excitement surrounding its potential to uplift the local economy and enhance the dining experience in Puerto del Rosario continues to grow. With modern amenities, job creation, and an emphasis on local sourcing, McDonald’s is set to play a significant role in the community’s economic landscape.
