New Leadership for Fuerteventura’s Municipal Assemblies

On Sunday, November 28th, the picturesque town of Antigua in Fuerteventura became the epicenter of political change as Pedro Armas Romero was elected President of the Municipal Assemblies. The event was held at the packed Auditorio de Antigua, reflecting a fervent atmosphere of excitement and anticipation among the attendees.

Formation of the New Insular Committee

The assembly also saw the election of a new insular committee, which promises to bring fresh ideas and dynamism to local governance. The leadership team is composed of notable figures from the area, including Juan Cabrera Peña from AMF Antigua, who has assumed the role of First Vice President. Yurena Vera Ramos from AMF Tuineje will serve as the Second Vice President, creating a diverse leadership that aims to represent various segments of the community.

Mayra Marichal Cerdeña is stepping into the role of Insular Coordinator, bringing a wealth of experience to her position. Other key roles were filled by Juan Nicolás Cabrera and Ernesto Suárez Gil, who will serve as Secretary of Minutes and Secretary of Treasury and Events, respectively. The team’s composition is rounded out by Elisabeth Martín Perdomo, who will manage Youth Affairs, Tomás Torres as Secretary of Communication and Social Networks, and Carmen Betancort in charge of Institutional Relations.

A Strategic Push for Upcoming Elections

During the congress, Pedro Armas took center stage, passionately encouraging party members to rally behind their upcoming electoral campaigns. He suggested that their formation could act as a “complement” to other political organizations, particularly endorsing Sergio Lloret, the current President of the Insular Cabildo, as a beacon of unity and strength. This sentiment resonated deeply within the crowd, amplifying the collective hope for successful electoral outcomes.

Acknowledging the Founders

An important aspect of the congress was the homage paid to the party’s founders, Ramón Carmelo Cabrera Peña and Pedro Pérez Rodríguez, who established AMF back in 2007. Reflecting on the party’s origins served as a powerful reminder of its vision and continuity. The attendees were reminded of the long journey that led to this moment of renewed leadership, illustrating the dedication involved in building a community-focused political platform.

Notable Guests and Political Interactions

The event was graced by several influential figures from other political formations, marking a crucial moment for inter-party collaboration in the region. Among the guests was Nairobi Mesa, who represents CC in Antigua, alongside Marcelino Cerdeña, President of Unidos por Betancuria. Representatives from Nuevas Canarias, including Andrés Motos and Pilar Rodríguez, further enriched the discussions held throughout the day.

Collaborative Efforts

The newly elected Insular Committee also established a Pact Commission, comprised of Sergio Lloret, Pedro Armas, and Manolo Travieso. This commission aims to foster cooperative efforts among multiple political bodies, emphasizing the need for collaboration in addressing pressing local issues and enhancing community engagement.

Together, these developments signify a momentous shift in Fuerteventura’s political landscape, bringing renewed vigor and a unified vision for the future. The road ahead looks promising for the AMF, bolstering hopes of progressive change and a collaborative spirit in the local government.
