Puerto del Rosario is gearing up for an exhilarating Carnival 2025, set to take place from February 22 to March 9. This year’s theme, “Toys and the Animated World,” promises to bring the streets alive with a riot of colors, live music, and elaborate costumes. As the major capital of Fuerteventura, this carnival aims to both revive traditional events and strengthen the presence of iconic celebrations.

Emphasizing Community Participation

David de Vera Cabrera, the mayor of Puerto del Rosario, expressed the significance of this carnival season, highlighting the importance of community involvement. He stated, “This year, we are bringing back eagerly anticipated events such as the Children’s Queen Gala while enhancing others like the Adult Queen Gala and the Regata de Achipencos, solidifying Puerto del Rosario as a leading destination in the Canary Islands.” His enthusiasm reflects the festival’s role in fostering local culture and community spirit.

A Unique Theme for a Festive Experience

Tacoremi Gutiérrez Gutiérrez, the councilor for celebrations, noted the originality of this year’s theme, encouraging residents to participate actively. She remarked, “The toys and animated characters will come to life in our streets, inviting citizens to join in with their best costumes.” The exciting theme is sure to spark creativity and pride among participants, further enhancing the carnival experience.

Kickoff Events and Highlights

The carnival will officially kick off on February 28 with the Pregón, a lively opening ceremony led by the Carnavaleros de Calle group at the Puerto del Rosario Auditorium. This event will transition into a grand celebration at Plaza Rafael Páez, setting the tone for the festivities ahead.

One of the carnival’s most anticipated events is the Insular Meeting of Children’s and Adult’s Murgas, scheduled for March 1. This event will feature talented groups such as Tictac Titos, Gambusitos, and others, culminating in a lively evening of songs and dance.

Festivities for Everyone

On March 2, participants will be thrilled to watch the iconic Regata de Achipencos in the picturesque Bahia of Puerto del Rosario. Alongside this, the Carnaval de Día at Playa de Los Pozos offers a fantastic day of live music and joyous celebration by the sea.

The following day, March 3, the Adult Queen Gala will take center stage with spectacular performances from the Grimanesa comparsa and murgas such as Majo y Limpio and Los Gambusinos. This glamorous event will be followed by a festive evening featuring local orchestras, allowing attendees to dance the night away.

Honoring the Seniors

March 5 will add a heartwarming touch to the carnival with the Gran Dama Gala and the 3rd Age Party. This celebration will feature live music, creating a special atmosphere for the seniors in the community, recognizing their contributions and ensuring they feel cherished during the festivities.

Rhythms and Joy: The Samba Parade

The excitement continues on March 7 with the Sambódromo da Ilha, a vibrant parade showcasing captivating batucadas and comparsas. This event will wrap up with a musical tribute, Por Siempre Selena, ensuring the party keeps going strong.

The Grand Finale

The carnival will culminate on March 9 with the traditional Burial of the Sardine, an event that brings together all the carnival groups for a grand farewell. The night will feature the Great Drag Gala, masterfully presented by the renowned Drag Sethlas, offering an unforgettable closing to the carnival celebrations.
