From July 8th to 10th, Puerto del Rosario will host the much-anticipated third edition of Puerto Joven. This initiative, organized by the local government in collaboration with the Cabildo of Fuerteventura, aims to transform Playa de Los Pozos into a vibrant hub for the youth of the municipality. With three days packed with sports, music, and leisure activities, Puerto Joven promises to be a highlight of the summer.
The event offers a diverse program, free of charge, that seamlessly weaves together sports, music, creativity, new technologies, and water-based activities. As it continues to grow, Puerto Joven has firmly established itself as one of the key events for youth engagement in the capital of Fuerteventura.
Consolidating Youth Engagement
According to Puerto del Rosario’s Mayor, David de Vera, Puerto Joven has solidified its reputation as a healthy leisure alternative for young people. The initiative aims to foster recreational, sporting, and cultural activities that encourage youth participation and community cohesion. He emphasized that this event is part of a broader socio-cultural revitalization strategy led by the local government in partnership with the Cabildo of Fuerteventura.
Jenifer Pérez, the Youth Councilor, mentioned that the programming has been shaped significantly by input from the youth themselves, ensuring that the offerings resonate with what they desire. The event will include beach sports, inflatable water slides, workshops, a gaming zone, live music, and various surprises, showcasing a commitment to local talent with appearances by majorero artist ELEDER and Puerto Rican star Brytiago.
A Unique Blend of Sports, Workshops, and Technology
This year’s program is jam-packed with exciting activities such as beach soccer and volleyball tournaments, alongside surf, bodyboard, kayak, and paddle surf sessions. Workshops will offer urban dance, jazz funk, pole dance, commercial dance, K-pop, acrobatics, and even eco-friendly fabric bag crafting. The venue will feature a gaming zone, kids’ circuits with inflatables, continuous music throughout the day, and performances by various DJs from Fuerteventura.
Adargoma Hernández, the Cabildo’s Youth Councilor, expressed pride in the collaboration between both administrations to create a project that promotes participation and engagement among young people from across the island. A new addition for this edition will be a gaming area, introduced by the New Technologies department, in response to the increasing significance of video games as innovative tools, creative outlets, and avenues for developing technology-related careers.
A Musical Grand Finale
The festivities will culminate on July 10th with a grand musical night. The evening will feature performances from local artist ELEDER, followed by a concert from Brytiago, a leading figure in contemporary urban music. This finale promises to be an electrifying celebration, ensuring participants leave with memorable experiences.
With its third edition, the City Council of Puerto del Rosario is reaffirming its commitment to promoting healthy lifestyles, creativity, community engagement, and high-quality leisure options targeted at young people. Puerto Joven is set to return, combining sports, music, and other engaging activities at Playa de Los Pozos.
