NeuronUP: Pioneering Digital Mental Health Solutions in Brazil
The landscape of mental health care is evolving rapidly, particularly in response to the aging population and the increasing demand for digital solutions. In Brazil, one company that is making significant strides in this arena is NeuronUP, a Spanish healthtech startup that has established a presence in 75 countries. With ambitious plans to expand its footprint in Brazil, NeuronUP aims to transform the way cognitive rehabilitation and neurorehabilitation are approached.
A Vision for Growth
Founded 15 years ago in La Rioja, Spain, NeuronUP has already made a mark by surpassing 200,000 users and partnering with over 3,500 institutions, including hospitals, rehabilitation centers, and elderly care facilities. The company recorded impressive growth last year, achieving €3 million in revenue, and is now setting its sights on doubling that figure by 2026. The Brazilian market is a key focus in this expansion strategy, with NeuronUP already serving more than 300 clients, including prestigious institutions like Hospital das Clínicas of the Faculty of Medicine of USP and Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein.
Theodore Kaelin Fiorderize, the Country Sales Manager for Brazil and Portugal, emphasizes the company’s commitment to a nationwide presence. “We really want to dominate the whole of Brazil, of course, little by little, to arrive in a consolidated way,” he explains. This approach reflects a desire to reach not just the major urban centers but also underserved regions across the country.
How NeuronUP Works
At its core, NeuronUP operates as a cloud-based platform designed to streamline therapeutic activities, assessment tools, and clinical monitoring. This integrated approach allows professionals—such as neuropsychologists, occupational therapists, and speech therapists—to manage various stages of patient care within a single digital environment.
One of the standout features of the platform is the upcoming launch of NeuronUP Evaluation, which will incorporate neuropsychological tests and assessment batteries directly into the rehabilitation process. This innovation aims to simplify the workflow for professionals, enabling them to conduct assessments and seamlessly transition patients into rehabilitation within the same platform.
Embracing Artificial Intelligence
NeuronUP is also investing heavily in artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance the personalization of treatments. The AI technology organizes data, supports analysis, and suggests tailored interventions based on a patient’s performance. “The AI will already create an attention session for him to start stimulating himself,” Theodore explains, highlighting how the tool can automate recommendations for healthcare professionals.
Currently, the platform boasts over 7,000 professionals globally, with around 5 million activities conducted each month. This robust usage underscores the platform’s effectiveness and its appeal to both hospitals and independent practitioners, who benefit from a B2B model based on annual subscriptions.
Strategic Expansion in Brazil
The growth strategy for Brazil is multifaceted, focusing on the launch of new products and geographic expansion. Theodore notes that the local goal aligns with the company’s global ambition to replicate last year’s success. “We want to double our revenue again,” he asserts, indicating a strong commitment to growth.
This expansion is further supported by a €10 million funding round secured from the Spanish venture capital fund Moira Venture, which was completed about a year ago. The capital is being utilized to accelerate international growth, particularly in Brazil, Portugal, and other Latin American markets.
Addressing Cognitive Care Needs
NeuronUP’s approach is not limited to specific diseases like Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, or ADHD. Instead, the company focuses on cognitive functions and areas of intervention such as memory, attention, and executive functions. This broad focus allows for more personalized treatments tailored to individual needs.
Theodore points out that there is a significant demand for cognitive care in Brazil, driven largely by the aging population. “There is a huge demand within Brazil for cognitive care,” he observes, highlighting the urgency of addressing these needs.
Unique Market Position
Currently, NeuronUP claims to have no direct competitors in Brazil offering a solution as comprehensive as theirs. While other companies may provide parts of the process, none have integrated assessment, rehabilitation, cognitive stimulation, and continuity of care into a single platform. This unique offering has attracted a diverse clientele, ranging from large institutions to specialized professionals, universities, and nursing homes.
By centralizing various demands, NeuronUP not only enhances operational efficiency but also allows neuropsychologists to spend less time on administrative tasks and more time focusing on patient care. This holistic approach positions NeuronUP as a leader in the burgeoning field of digital mental health solutions in Brazil.
