El Carnaval de Carnavales de Corralejo: Un Estallido de Color y Creatividad
Celebrando el Talento Local
The vibrant spirit of Corralejo is set to come alive once again as preparations for the Carnaval de Carnavales unfold. Scheduled to kick off on March 2, 2023, this year’s festivities promise ten days of exhilarating entertainment, rich cultural expressions, and, of course, an explosion of color under the theme of “África.”
Recently, the Ayuntamiento de La Oliva celebrated a key moment in the lead-up to the carnival by unveiling the official event poster, designed by local artist Mónica Umpiérrez Rebordinos, known artistically as Moño. Awarded the first prize of €500, Moño’s creation, titled “Jolgorio de especies,” stood out among 22 submissions during the recent contest held in December 2022.
A Moment to Shine: The Award Ceremony
The award presentation took place in the Salón de Plenos of the town hall, graced by the presence of the Mayor of La Oliva, Pilar González, and Councillor for Festivities, Joana Pérez. During the event, both officials expressed their admiration for the incredible talent displayed by the youth of Corralejo. The mayor was particularly enthusiastic, emphasizing her pleasure in witnessing the community’s desire for the carnival to return to the streets.
Honoring Creativity and Participation
While celebrating Moño’s victory, the event also recognized Rubén Lucas García, who secured the second prize for his poster entitled “Alegría.” This recognition highlights the thriving creative community in Corralejo and serves as an inspiration for future artists and participants. Both González and Pérez took this opportunity to commend all contributors for their remarkable efforts, reinforcing the importance of community engagement in the carnival’s sustained success.
What to Expect This Carnival Season
As the carnival nears, anticipation is building within the local community and among visitors alike. The festivities will incorporate various events, activities, and parades designed to embody the spirit of the African theme, showcasing not only the vibrant culture of the continent but also the rich diversity of the local population.
