The Cabildo of Fuerteventura, through the Department of Sports, has successfully completed the ‘Blue Week’ nautical activities program for the 2025-2026 school year. This edition concludes with the participation of 1,249 students, belonging to 37 educational centers and distributed in 45 groups, consolidating this initiative as one of the main educational and sports programs aimed at the school population of Fuerteventura. The programming has been carried out from September 2025 to June 2026 at the locations of Puerto del Rosario, Gran Tarajal, Morro Jable and Corralejo, which has made it possible to bring nautical activities closer to the students of the different municipalities of the island and facilitate their participation in conditions of proximity, safety and accessibility. ‘Blue Week’ 2025-2026 came to an end with a final day in which 35 schoolchildren from CEO Antigua participated. During the course, the students have participated in theoretical sessions taught in the educational centers themselves and in practical introductory days to different nautical modalities. The activities have allowed us to learn basic aspects related to navigation, safety in the marine environment, boat management, teamwork and respect for the coastline and marine ecosystems. In addition to sports learning, ‘La Semana Azul’ promotes values such as coexistence, cooperation, personal autonomy, equality, inclusion and care of the natural environment, using nautical sports as an educational and comprehensive training tool. The president of the Cabildo, Lola García, highlights that “the high participation registered during this course demonstrates that La Semana Azul is a fully consolidated program and highly valued by the educational community. Our objective is that students from all municipalities can learn about the marine environment, get started in nautical sports and learn values that are fundamental for their personal and collective development.” For his part, the Sports Minister, Luis González, points out that “the decentralization of the program through different venues allows the activities to be brought closer to educational centers and to take advantage of the excellent natural conditions that Fuerteventura offers for the practice of sports linked to the sea.” The Department of Sports would like to express its gratitude to all participating educational centers, their management teams, teachers and accompanying staff, for their involvement and collaboration during the development of the program. The Cabildo also appreciates the work carried out by the technical staff, monitors and professionals responsible for the activities, whose work has allowed the sessions to be carried out with the proper conditions of organization, safety and quality. Likewise, the collaboration of the Port Authority of Las Palmas, Canary Ports and the Maritime Captaincy is recognized, as well as the town councils involved and the collaborating entities and clubs in the different venues, especially the Península de Jandía Nautical Club and the Faro de La Entallada Fishing Club. The collaboration between public administrations, educational centers, clubs and professionals has been essential to guarantee the correct development of a program that has been extended throughout the school year, according to the island councilor. With the completion of this edition, the Cabildo of Fuerteventura reaffirms its commitment to the promotion of sports at school age, education in values and bringing children and young people closer to the marine environment, consolidating ‘The Blue Week’ as a reference program within the island’s educational and sports offer. ‘Blue Week’ is part of the Sportura25-35 strategy of the Sports Department of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura, aimed at improving the quality of life of the population through healthy, accessible, inclusive and violence-free sports.
