The Cabildo de Fuerteventura, through its Craftsmanship Service, has launched an exciting series of artisan workshops at the IES Puerto del Rosario. This initiative forms a vital part of the educational project titled “Patrimonio: una visión en femenino” (Heritage: A Feminine Perspective). Aimed at nurturing young minds and promoting local heritage, these workshops brought together 25 students and four teachers from the institution, alongside Erasmus students from the Lycée Jul Fils in Carcassonne, France.

Kicking off the day was a comprehensive talk on pottery led by Silverio López, who introduced the students to the techniques and historical significance of this age-old craft. Following his session, Maria Hernández captivated the audience with her insights into palm weaving. Sharing her family’s tradition in craftsmanship, she conducted a live demonstration, showcasing the core techniques and varieties of her art.
To round off the day’s learning, Nieves Rodríguez presented a thought-provoking video on lacework, illustrating her personal and professional journey within this delicate art form. The combination of storytelling and visual content made the experiences resonate deeply with the students, providing them with a diverse perspective on Fuerteventura’s artistic legacies.
