The Department of Territorial Policy, Territorial Cohesion and Water of the Government of the Canary Islands has published today on the Public Sector Contracting Platform the tender for the expansion works of the Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) of Puerto del Rosario, in Fuerteventura, for a budget of 14,195,880.99 euros. The updated project contemplates the expansion of the Puerto del Rosario WWTP, an infrastructure intended for the treatment of the municipality’s wastewater and the subsequent regeneration of part of the treated water. The contract is processed through an open procedure and ordinary processing. The period for submitting offers will remain open until November 9 and the expected period for the execution of the works is 20 months. The project will double the treatment capacity of the facility, which will go from the current approximately 3,000 cubic meters per day to 6,000 cubic meters per day. The action includes the expansion of the lines and equipment for wastewater treatment, as well as new facilities for the treatment of sludge generated during the purification process. Among the planned improvements is the incorporation of advanced biological treatment processes, which will improve the quality of the treated water and provide greater stability to the process in the face of flow variations. The removal of solids and sand will also be optimized and new facilities will be built that will allow more effective dehydration of the sludge. This last action will reduce the volume of waste generated and facilitate its subsequent management, while reducing the environmental impact associated with its transportation and treatment. The water resulting from the process will have adequate quality for reuse in the irrigation of the primary sector and green areas, among other uses. The availability of regenerated water will contribute to reducing pressure on conventional water resources and will free up resources for other uses, such as supplying the population. The action also includes measures to reduce discharges into the sea and improve its conditions, in addition to reinforcing the environmental integration of the facility, located in the Risco Prieto industrial zone.
