Fuerteventura Celebrates the Closure of the Emotional Wellbeing Program
Last week, the Health Area of Fuerteventura proudly celebrated the closing ceremony of its Emotional Wellbeing Group Program, which took place in the Basic Health Zone of Puerto del Rosario. The initiative, spearheaded by the Primary Care management, showcases a dedicated effort towards multi-disciplinary collaboration aimed at enhancing the mental health of the local community.
An Insightful Initiative
The Emotional Wellbeing Program began in January and has brought together twenty participants who were referred from primary care psychology consultations. Over the course of ten group sessions, attendees engaged in meaningful discussions and activities centered around emotional management. These workshops were not just about sharing feelings; they provided valuable tools for tackling daily challenges, regulating emotions, and practicing self-care. One of the cornerstones of the program was the emphasis on mutual support and shared learning among participants, creating an uplifting environment.
A Show of Support
The closing event saw an impressive turnout from various key stakeholders, including representatives from the Medical Direction of Primary Care, the Nursing Department, and both the Directorate and Subdirectorate of the Basic Health Zone of Puerto del Rosario. Their presence underscored the collective commitment of the Health Area of Fuerteventura to provide comprehensive, approachable, and evidence-based care that meets the mental health needs of the community.
Personal Experiences Shared
During the event, several participants took to the stage to share their experiences. Many expressed how the skills and strategies acquired during the program have empowered them to handle everyday situations with greater confidence. This personal testimony highlighted the transformative impact of the program on their emotional wellbeing, illustrating that the benefits yielded extend far beyond the sessions themselves.
Complementary Therapy for Improved Support
The group workshops that fall under the Canary Health Service (SCS) umbrella serve as a therapeutic complement to the individualized care offered by primary care psychologists. While the group format fosters connectivity and diminishes feelings of isolation, it does not replace the necessity of personalized, one-on-one support. The positive outcomes observed in this pilot project have piqued interest in extending the program to other basic health zones across the island.
Building a Community-Centric Care Model
As the program paves the way for further developments in mental health support, it epitomizes a community care model that prioritizes interdisciplinary coordination. This approach not only stands to benefit the participants but also fosters a robust network of support within the health system, ensuring that mental health resources become more accessible to everyone in Fuerteventura.
Through initiatives like the Emotional Wellbeing Program, the Health Area of Fuerteventura is setting a commendable benchmark for community-focused mental health care, rendering meaningful support that resonates deeply with the local population.
