The festive spirit of the Carnival in Antigua is making its way to Caleta de Fuste this weekend, promising a celebration filled with magic, music, and entertainment for everyone. A vibrant Carnival tent will be set up along the promenade, in the parking area of Frasquita, to host a diverse program of events on Friday, February 28, and Saturday, March 1. The Joy of Carnival from Antigua is arriving at Caleta de Fuste.
Pedro Armas, the Councilor for Festivities, emphasizes that the relocation of the event enhances its intensity rather than diminishes it. This change allows even more people to participate and enjoy the organized activities. Following the success of the Carnival edition in Antigua, various performances including comparsas, batucadas, and carnival groups will join the celebration in Caleta de Fuste, with high hopes for a large turnout.
A Friday Full of Entertainment
The festivities kick off on Friday at 5:00 PM with a Children’s Party, designed to enchant the little ones with the magic of Senas, the antics of clown Sebas Clown, and the incredible dance talent of Laura Cerdeña’s group. The Carnival’s Child Queen and her Honorary Ladies will also make an appearance, joined by comparsas Zulymar and Savia Joven, as well as the Mexican cultural group from the Asociación Cultural El Campillo.
As night falls, the atmosphere will shift towards a more daring tone with the highly anticipated Drag Gala at 9:00 PM. This performance is set to feature prominent figures from the Canary Islands scene, including Sethlas, Armek, Eyzet, Avalon, Nemesis, and Shirah. The evening will conclude with lively music from the group Gente Nueva, ensuring a vibrant end to the first day of festivities.
Saturday: Parade and Farewell to Carnival
On Saturday, the celebration continues with the Coso Carnavalero, a grand parade showcasing batucadas, floats, and comparsas as they march through the main streets of Caleta de Fuste. Participants will begin gathering at 4:00 PM on Franchy Roca Street, with the parade kicking off one hour later, bringing the excitement and vibrancy of the celebration across the town.
After the parade concludes, attendees will have the opportunity to witness the traditional Entierro de la Sardina at the fairgrounds, a ceremonial event that humorously symbolizes the conclusion of the festivities. To cap off the Carnival with flair, DJ Clandestina, the band Siroko, and Mejor con Copas will take the stage, guaranteeing an evening packed with music and enjoyment.
Matías Peña, the Mayor of Antigua, has expressed his gratitude for the efforts made by all those involved in the event’s organization. This includes municipal workers and security forces, who will ensure the smooth operation of the events in coordination with the Local Police and Civil Guard.
With this exciting lineup, the Carnival of Caleta de Fuste emerges as a must-attend event for anyone looking to experience the magic and energy of one of the most anticipated celebrations of the year. The Joy of Carnival from Antigua is certainly arriving at Caleta de Fuste.
