The National Police dismantles one of the largest speed manufacturing laboratories in the Canary Islands | National Police The National Police of Arrecife has dismantled what it has described as “one of the largest laboratories for the production of amphetamine sulphate (speed) in the Canary Islands”, in an operation carried out on January 31 in the town of Tahiche, on the island of Lanzarote. The police action has resulted in the arrest of three people, with no police records, and the seizure of approximately 50 kilograms of speed, in addition to 30,000 euros in cash. The estimated value of the substance seized on the illicit market amounts to approximately 690,000 euros. As detailed, the investigation began when the activity of an individual who regularly traveled from the peninsula to Lanzarote with the aim of producing the narcotic substance was detected. The agents established a surveillance device after becoming aware of one of his trips, monitoring him since his arrival on the island. During the operation, investigators observed how the main suspect moved through different points adopting important security measures, until finally accessing a home located in Tahiche, where the clandestine laboratory was allegedly located. Given the evidence collected, the judicial authority authorized the entry and search of the property. Inside, the agents proceeded to arrest the three involved. Likewise, in one of the rooms of the house, a freezer chest was located, inside which were the 50 kilograms of amphetamine sulfate already prepared and ready for distribution, in addition to 30,000 euros in cash. The police investigations made it possible to determine that the main detainee was in charge of the preparation of the drug, while the other two arrested, residents of the property, assumed the duties of custody and distribution of the substance throughout the archipelago. The detainees were placed at the disposal of the competent judicial authority, which ordered the imprisonment of all of them.
