New Governance Structure in Puerto del Rosario
On a significant day in Puerto del Rosario, the capital of Fuerteventura, Mayor David de Vera has unveiled a new governance structure aimed to improve local administration. This initiative was formalized through a decree signing that took place on a recent Monday, outlining the specific areas of government and the competencies designated to various officials.
The New Government Setup
The new governance structure will function across ten distinct areas, signaling a comprehensive approach to governance. The clarity in structure is expected to enhance efficiency and streamline decision-making processes. Under this fresh framework, the local government aims to address a plethora of community needs more effectively.
Key Responsibilities Retained by the Mayor
In a strategic move, the Mayor has decided to retain several crucial municipal services directly under the Mayor’s office. These include Social Services, General Secretariat, Legal Services, Security and Emergency Services (which encompasses Local Police, Fire Services, and Civil Protection), as well as Protocol affairs. This consolidation is designed to ensure that the most sensitive and urgent community services are closely managed and respond nimbly to public needs.
Assigned Areas of Competence
The decree specifies various lead roles for council members in different domains:
- Juan Jiménez will tackle Sports, Tourism, Education, Transport, and Economic Heritage.
- David De León steps up to oversee Municipal Services, Local Villages and Neighborhoods, Historical Heritage, and the Primary Sector.
- María Franco Medina is appointed to manage Human Resources, Procurement, Internal Regulation, and Institutional Relations, vital roles for ensuring a well-functioning administration.
Other essential areas include:
- Juan Manuel Verdugo, who will direct the portfolio of Economy and Finance, Industry and Energy, Consumer Affairs, and Cemeteries.
- Ana María Hernández takes charge of Municipal Works, Urban Planning, and Regulatory Framework.
- Antonia Fernández leads efforts in Economic Promotion, Housing, Beaches, Mobility, and Accessibility.
- Enrique Soler will oversee Culture, Youth, New Technologies, Transparency, Press, and Communication.
- Erica González manages Local Development, Employment, and Festivities.
- Jenifer Pérez will address concerns regarding the Environment, Public Health, Traffic, and Citizen Participation.
- Finally, Tacoremi Gutiérrez will be responsible for Parks and Green Zones, Commerce, Animal Welfare, Equality, Diversity, and LGTBI affairs.
Local Government Council Composition
Furthermore, the decree outlines the composition of the local government board, which includes key council members like Juan Jiménez González, David De León Suárez, María Franco Medina, and several others. This board serves as an essential platform for strategic governance and decision-making.
Mayor’s Deputies
In terms of deputy roles, the appointments have been clearly defined to enhance accountability and leadership. Juan Jiménez González is designated as the First Deputy Mayor, while David De León and María Franco Medina take on the roles of Second and Third Deputy Mayors, respectively. This triad will work closely under the Mayor’s guidance to implement policies effectively.
Continued Leadership Beyond the Basics
Completing the deputy mayoral team, further appointments have been made, extending from Juan Manuel Verdugo to Enrique Soler, filling the Fourth through Seventh Deputy Mayor roles. Each appointee brings unique expertise to their positions, ensuring a well-rounded approach to governance.
The establishment of this new structure marks a pivotal moment in Puerto del Rosario’s administrative landscape. It reflects a commitment to transparency, efficiency, and responsiveness to the needs of its citizens, setting the stage for community-focused governance moving forward.
