The Pájara Town Council Promotes Audiovisual Workshops to Foster Equality in Educational Centers

Promoting Values through Audiovisual Education

The City Council of Pájara, in partnership with the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training, Physical Activity, and Sports of the Government of the Canary Islands, has launched the ‘Cortos por la Igualdad’ workshops. This educational initiative will be held at the IES Jandía and the CIFP Morro Jable, aiming to sensitize students about the importance of equality through audiovisual language. These workshops will train 34 students, comprising 15 from IES Jandía and 19 from CIFP Morro Jable, each spanning 10 hours at their respective institutions.

Kathaisa Rodríguez, the councilor of Social Services, emphasized that “this activity reinforces the role of educational institutions as fundamental spaces for value formation”. By introducing the concept of equality at an early age, the initiative aspires to pave the way for a more just and equitable society. Alejandro Jorge, the mayor of Pájara, added that “these workshops present an opportunity for students to further their education on equality through creativity and critical thinking”.

Commitment to Equality and Violence Prevention

The councilor of Education, Adelaida (Laya) Batista, stressed the importance of a collaborative approach among various municipal departments and educational institutions to act in the best interest of their community. According to Batista, education is the most powerful tool for preventing violence, promoting respect, and building a more egalitarian society, making these workshops a tangible representation of that vision.

The Role of Audiovisual Media in Education

Audiovisual media holds a unique position in today’s educational landscape. By blending storytelling, imagery, and sound, it provides a multi-dimensional approach to learning that can engage students more effectively than traditional methods. The ‘Cortos por la Igualdad’ initiative aims to harness this power by encouraging students to express their understanding of equality through the creation of short films and other audiovisual projects. This hands-on approach not only fosters creativity but also allows students to confront and analyze social issues critically.

Sparking Conversations on Equality

One of the main goals of these workshops is to spark meaningful conversations among students about gender equality, respect, and social justice. Through collaborative projects, students will have the opportunity to share their thoughts and perspectives, challenging stereotypes and preconceived notions. This dialogue is crucial in shaping how young minds perceive equality, influencing their interactions in society well beyond the classroom.

A Future-Oriented Initiative

The ‘Cortos por la Igualdad’ workshops exemplify a forward-thinking approach to education, viewing young people not just as students, but as active participants in the construction of a more equitable future. By equipping them with the necessary tools to express their thoughts and challenge societal norms, Pájara is nurturing a generation of informed, empathetic, and socially conscious individuals.

Building Partnerships within the Community

The collaboration between the City Council and educational institutions showcases the importance of creating synergies within the community. By working together, various stakeholders can pool resources, share knowledge, and enhance the educational experience. This is particularly relevant in discussions surrounding equality and social justice, where a united front can yield greater impact than isolated efforts.
