Fuerteventura PP Urges Cabildo to Advance Public Housing Development

As Fuerteventura continues to attract investors, the need for sustainable housing solutions becomes increasingly urgent.

The Popular Party of Fuerteventura has called on the Island Council to take a proactive stance in promoting public housing initiatives and to lead its own projects in response to the ongoing housing crisis affecting the island.

In a recent statement, the party emphasized that the council should not merely collaborate on initiatives developed by other entities but should actively utilize its regulatory powers to foster the development of affordable housing.

Claudio Gutiérrez, the PP spokesperson at the Cabildo, highlighted the pressing need for public housing to address the rising rental prices and the challenges many local families face in securing accommodation.

A notable example highlighted by the party is the recent construction of 47 homes on Don Quijote Street in Puerto del Rosario. Gutiérrez credited this project to a collaborative effort between the Canary Islands Government and the local city council, asserting that the Cabildo should similarly initiate its own comparable projects.

Furthermore, the Popular Party has introduced a proposal known as “Plan Vive Fuerteventura.” This initiative aims to leverage public funding and promote public-private partnerships for affordable rentals, alongside measures to streamline the administrative processes related to housing projects.

In conclusion, the party insists that the Cabildo should assume a leadership role in housing matters and effectively utilize available legal mechanisms to initiate new projects that facilitate access to affordable housing in Fuerteventura.
