El Cabildo de Fuerteventura Hosts Inaugural ‘Día Gaming’ Event

This past weekend, El Cabildo de Fuerteventura, through its Department of New Technologies, successfully initiated the exciting ‘Día Gaming’ event. Hosted at the cultural centers in Lajares (La Oliva) and El Matorral (Puerto del Rosario), this free gaming and technology workshop series aimed at youth and families marks a significant step towards promoting digital engagement on the island.

The Vision Behind ‘Día Gaming’

The event is a cornerstone of the ‘Telecentros Gamificación’ project, which aims to transform telecenters and youth spaces across Fuerteventura into vibrant hubs for digital leisure, creativity, and learning, all centered around video gaming. This initiative reflects a growing trend in many communities to utilize technology for fostering social connections and educational opportunities.

Insights from Carmen Alonso

Carmen Alonso, the councilor for New Technologies, emphasized the goal of reshaping telecenters into modern, dynamic spaces that inspire creativity among the youth. “It’s essential for young people to engage in events like this,” she stated, highlighting the importance of creating a gaming community in Fuerteventura. Alongside her were Rosa Rodríguez, the councilor for New Technologies in Puerto del Rosario, and David Hernández, the culture councilor for La Oliva, underscoring a collaborative effort amongst local government.

Community Reception and Future Plans

The reception of ‘Día Gaming’ was overwhelmingly positive in both La Oliva and Puerto del Rosario. For those who missed out, there’s good news: another session is scheduled for March 7th at the Casa de la Juventud in Morro Jable, running from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM. This provides another chance for interested individuals and families to engage in this vibrant community activity.

Diverse Programming for All Ages

The event featured a thrilling lineup including tournaments for popular games such as Clash Royale, Fortnite, Mario Kart, and FC26. Additionally, there were areas designated for free play, allowing enthusiasts to mingle and share their love for gaming. Workshops further enriched the experience, covering topics like 3D printing, Pokémon TCG, and even game creation using Roblox Studio. These activities not only hone technical skills but also foster digital creativity among the youth of Fuerteventura.

An Invitation to All

Carmen Alonso encouraged families, young people, and gaming aficionados to participate actively. “This event is a perfect opportunity to discover new activities, team up with other players, and demonstrate that Fuerteventura is a place to experience and showcase digital talent,” she remarked. The inclusive nature of the event halls reflects the commitment to promoting a welcoming environment for everyone.

Collaboration with Local Municipalities

A heartfelt thanks was extended to the municipalities of Puerto del Rosario, Pájara, and La Oliva, whose collaborative efforts were crucial in bringing the first gaming days to fruition. This community-driven project aims to engage the younger population across the island, allowing them to connect, learn, and grow.

Looking Ahead: Expanding the Gaming Calendar

The momentum generated by ‘Día Gaming’ is only the beginning. Plans are underway to expand the calendar of activities under the ‘Telecentros Gamificación’ initiative, including the Inter Telecentros Gaming League. This ongoing series will culminate in a grand island-wide final event, celebrating the participation and dedication of all involved telecenters.

By continually engaging the community and highlighting the importance of digital learning and creativity, El Cabildo de Fuerteventura is poised to lead the way in establishing a robust gaming culture on the island.
